If the Islamic countries are inflamed now, wait until they see this video of their Prophet Mohammed getting his head knocked off by Moses using the Ten Commandments. Ouch: http://www.techtonian.com/?p=23

Should this type of speech be stopped? Is it dangerous? Is it funny? Does anyone really care?

3. I know I will catch flack for this
But everybody needs ot grow up.

The cartoons were clearly meant to imply that Islam is synonamous with terrorism.

But some of the Muslim reaction only reinforces that idea.

If you cant' stand to have your beleifs made fun of or even rediculed, the problem may lie in part with yourself.

Gods know I've heard peopel make fun of new Agers and Pagans. I can think of a south park episode or three. But it was never worth going out to the streets and advocating violence.

7. Exactly
Some creative muslims need to draw some cartoons making fun of the Danes..

The response of the Islamic world is just childish.

4. Islam needs to learn to take a hit
As good as they dish one out!
Islam expects to trash everyone else's religion, or lack of religion, and at the same time claim their shit don't stink! The world doesn't work that way, Mohammed! You are in this world just like the rest of us, and you still must put your pants on, one damned leg at a time!

15. That would require CREATIVE imagination and artistry - probably a
forbidden characteristic deep in the fundamentalist Islamic Taliban like cabals. My point is that the political players that are currently exploiting their Islamic base don't want peaceful reactions. They want VIOLENT action spent from ANGER - the surest way to gain more power.

The Muslims can use these royalty-free if it makes them feel better.

Here's one of Pat Robertson as a bonus:

And here's one that pokes fun at Moses:

18. because that's life. In life, you will take gabs at your personality,
religion, looks, intellectual abilities, etc... that's something as an adult you just have to deal with. It's not so hard.

If you've had a brother/sister that challenges you through personal attacks or jokes, it's not because they hate you (not always), it's to thicken your skin in preparation for the realities of the outside world. It makes you stronger - and I think this current situation is a sign of just how weak Islam is, how weak their community is due to each individual's isolation from people challenging the notion of their 'Prophet'. They are in isolation because they aren't allowed to even discuss these ideas in their own community. So when they are challenged in their collective face by outside forces, they freak out, totally destabilize, start burning embassies, all by a set of cartoons.

If Islam were my brother, I'd be teasing the crap out of him right now for being such a wimp. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me. But they sure seem to be hurting the heck out of Islam right now.

11. Exactly, but it's this group mentality that, "We are the ONLY victims" by
the Islamic fundamentalists that I find so curious - as if Mohammed is the first and ONLY relgious figure to have been satirized in a political cartoon. So I would expect them to see this video and see what they want to see, which would match their group behavior as of late.

No, they wouldn't. But they would see the evil side of the perpetrators...
and that would result in a backlash against Islam on the scale of a holy war. Ironic, ain't it, how the world is what we make of it.

Maybe then they'll realize how good they had it when all they had to worry about was a 3"x4" cartoon in the back of some newspaper.

10. Freedom or Theocracy?
Part of being free is dealing with other views that you do not share. I think the people who are rioting and threating violence over the Mohammed cartoons need to get some thick skin. Are they insulted and filled with rage when their other prophet of the "book" Jesus, is regularly skewered and mocked? I doubt it, and they shouldn't. They should chill and watch the movie Dogma, a great flick. }(

This tempest in a teapot perfectly highlights why theocracies are so violent and dangerous, at home and abroad. Monotheistic religions are inflexible and rigid. I say, keep your gods out of my government. I would fight to the death to protect the rights of Americans to worship whatever they chose, and with equal vigor against those who threaten our constitution, lives, and liberty. Violent Islamists and Fundie Christians should be watched with great suspicion. They come from different cultures, but the driving force is the same, and I fear the ultimate clash. Maybe we should dump "In God we Trust", to New Hampshire's "Live Free or Die."

PS: If you're going to get mad about a cartoon, get mad at GOOD cartoon.

Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 05:51 PM by IanDB1
they should stop burning embassies when someone says something about them they don't like.

Besides...

It might put ideas into Pat Robertson's head the next time a TV Network wants to air a TV program he doesn't like.

We already have our hands full with the likes of Timothy McVeigh.

Actually, the video you posted is pretty funny in a sick way, but it most certainly doesn't single out any particular religion for ridicule (the scene of Siddhartha biting off Jesus' head is probably more offensive to Buddhists than it is to Christians), and it's making fun of violent video games (right down to the ridiculously exaggerated idle animations) more than it's making fun of religions.

However, even if it was something I consider offensive to a particular group, that doesn't mean we should abandon the principles of free speech.

16. On the OTHER hand...
Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 06:04 PM by IanDB1
Here is a message to all those yellow-elephant chickenhawks who are "fighting the war of ideas" rather than actually fighting the actual war in Iraq:

If you proudly display a "Terrorist Hunting Permit" on your SUV

If you have a bumper-sticker that says, "These Colors Don't Run"

If you honestly believe we are "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here"
If you wear an American flag on a shirt that says, "Try and burn THIS one"

Then please-- prominently display these cartoons on your cars, on your clothing, and on your web pages.

Let the Islamic world know that you are not afraid to express yourself.

If you believe in this war yet will not go and fight it with a gun. If you support this president, but will not enlist in his war. Then please-- display these cartoons at every opportunity to show that you're not a coward.

It is every Republican's duty to stand-up for free speech and wear these cartoons prominently on your clothing every time you leave the house.

Especially when traveling abroad.

Republicans should not be afraid to express their opinions as an American no matter where they are.

These colors don't run.

Only cowards cut and run. Republicans never do.

So, pro-war, pro-Bush, pro-free-speech Republicans-- display these cartoons everywhere.
