American badasses
I've been puzzling over how Bush can keep the support he has. Why isn't it getting through to so many people exactly what is going on?

The American Badass.

It's the people that bully and throw their weight around, that think that being 'manly' means intimidating and starting fights for fun, and laugh at other people's pains and misery. John Wayne wannabes that have their self-image rolled up in the idea of strutting around and scaring kids. The war was candy for them. They went on and on about how it was about time we had a president the 'did what he needed to do,' rather than be diplomatic. They see the world as a series of King of the Hill games, where their only worth is how many people they can push over.

We can't win people like this over with arguments or logic. They see arguments and logic as weak and 'womanly', because they aren't violent and thoughtless kinds of solutions. How do you argue rationally against someone who is deep-down afraid that they are not a 'real man'?

1. You're right, but also factor in the Bible Belt
As long as Bush quotes scripture, he can kill with impunity.

3. What's weird is that the fundies and the badasses are usually opponents
At least so it seems to me. But in the last several years we've seen a forging of the two, into a "Jesus can kick your ass!" kind of idiot. And those people LOVE what is going on.

2. I remember a line from an A&E documentary.
Taking over a church is one of the easiest things to do. All you have to do is be able to quote Scripture. Only thing is, This country is a whole lot bigger than a church.

4. I think you are right. Many are aware they put their money on
the wrong horse. We are just not aware of the numbers yet. It is hard to say, "I was wrong". The less money we have in our pockets, the more likely we change parties.

5. Yeah. There's a lag there
We are picking up momentum, and we have been for a while now, but it's frustrating to not see the effects. Doubly so because the media is trying so hard to hide them.

6. Sometimes you don't even have to do that
A lot of the fundy churches that I've seen have pastors that don't even know bible quotes. They just yell in a biblical style.

7. Their error is that they don't see other people as being
part of themselves. If there is a God, and if this God is infinite and eternal, then all things are part of God and other people are included. The inescapable reality, then, is that to bully another is to hurt one's own self. Failing to see this is their fundamental mistake, no pun intended.
