4. Did you read the link?
Unless a communist ran for president and they donated to him/her, you can't find that out there.

13. Yes, I understood what the link was.
My comment was meant to be ironic. I just thought your OP sounded a bit McCarthyist.

I know you didn't mean it that way, I was just trying to be funny. Clearly I failed.

3. I love that site. I've checked out many people in my area.
It is so cool that the r.e.m. guys (the musicians and their lawyer and their manager) from my city donate so much money to local, state and federal Democratic candidates. :)

15. You can also look up corporate people and business people.
It is very interesting. You can see where people live and where they donate. For instance, people can live one place but donate in another area or have their children donate (you know the parents give them the money.)

44. LOL...
From the site's opening paragraph:
Use the location search (on your home address) to find those who live near you that have made presidential campaign contributions. You can also search for friends or celebrities by name.

Thanks for the chuckle.

16. I think you have to donate $101 to show up on the site.
$100 or under is not recorded. I may be wrong about the exact number but there is a $ amount above which you will be listed along with your address and profession/job.

14. I tried it but I feel kinda cheap for using it. I know the info is there
for anyone to see but I still feel a bit like a snoop. My neighbors deserve better from me. (And besides this is such a small town we pretty much all know each other's politics anyway.)

31. No... donating to a political campaign is a public act... and should be!
Every penny those guys get should be tracked. But perhaps people ought to be more clearly warned that their donations are public record.

17. Ick
no offense, and while the info is of public record, the idea of folks checking neighbors out (from either side) sorta creeps me out - as in the we are going to divide ourselves, irreversibly, sorta sense.

Just my gut reaction.

25. Although I understand what you mean
about it being creepy for neighbors to check out neighbors, I'll bet many of the listed GOP contributors support wiretapping with the argument, "I have nothing to hide".

Henry Bloch gave to Kerry.
http://www.fundrace.org/neighbors.php?type=loc&addr=&zip=66208&search=Search+by+Location

The top name there is the Hall family - of Hallmark. Mrs. Hall gave $12,500 to the RNC. :puke:

No more Hallmark cards for me. Their whole family is there. I grew up with them. Every single one of them and the kids gave to repukes. Damn.

24. Signs are tightly restricted where I live
In fact, a guy in the neighboring suburb just won a court case (the ACLU defended him) to keep an anti-war sign in his yard.

There is another neighboring burb that bans all signs - even real estate signs.

So I can't always tell by the signs.

35. What I find surprising is how FEW people donate to campaigns!
No one else on our street, as far as I can tell. A couple people from the next streets over, but though we live in a dense neighborhood, only a pageful of people within the surrounding mile donated to anyone at all. And this is a well-to-do neighborhood: we're the black sheep with the house that needs painting...

40. the big problem with Fundrace is that it is VERY limited
only shows 2004 presidential race fundraising.

I highly prefer newsmeat.com which allows you to search EVERY (President, Senate, House, PAC, and soft money) campaign contribution since the mid 70s.
