Cat Calls 911 to Help Owner, Police Say
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Police aren't sure how else to explain it. But when an officer walked into an apartment Thursday night to answer a 911 call, an orange-and-tan striped cat was lying by a telephone on the living room floor. The cat's owner, Gary Rosheisen, was on the ground near his bed having fallen out of his wheelchair.

Rosheisen said his cat, Tommy, must have hit the right buttons to call 911.

"I know it sounds kind of weird," Officer Patrick Daugherty said, unsuccessfully searching for some other explanation.

Rosheisen said he couldn't get up because of pain from osteoporosis and ministrokes that disrupt his balance. He also wasn't wearing his medical-alert necklace and couldn't reach a cord above his pillow that alerts paramedics that he needs help.

2. I saw this on the news last night.
This may be the only cat in the world that ever truly cared about anyone other than himself. Although, in truth, he was probably worried The Man wouldn't be able to feed him, so it was really in the cat's best interest to dial 911 afterall.

5. Actually, it depends on the cat
some cats do get attached to their owners. The majority, however, get attached to their territory.

And, of course, the guy could have had 911 on his speed dial, in which case, the cat would only have to press one button.

6. Our three kitties are very sweet and sociable
Especially one. Not all cats are aloof and "nasty" -- actually, I've never had one that wasn't very attached to me emotionally, not just for physical needs.

7. I had a cat once
who went on a hunger strike while I was away for a week. He was very upset and didn't eat again until I came home. He was in his own home and my parents, who also lived there, were with him the entire time.
