What's the worst thing that a conservative has ever said to you?
has ever said to you?

Mine was my repub aunt. We were arguing about the homeless. I pointed out that in my hometown, 1/3 of the homeless population is comprised of children.

Her reply?

"That's not my problem."

Children. Homeless. How heartless can you get?

Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 10:33 AM by seabeyond
friends..... i will NOT go to church and put my children in that environment. that would be walking off christs path, to me.... with what church is teaching today

told son's 2nd grade teacher the other day. religion is so a part of this community, just has spread throughout public school, on the street driving, all the crosses on mirrors, all the declaration of being christian in bumperstickers.

it is everywhere we turn, people boasting that they are christian.

i told them, christians made my son close the bible for the first time in his young life. it became spiritually damgaging to my son. i cut no slack. i challenge all to tell me out loud, am i christian. as they go thru their list.

get me outta this red place, lool

13. not necessarily the worst, but the funniest
pre Iraq invasion, Peace Vigil from 5-6pm; Truck kept driving around the courthouse yelling things like... "Get a Job" (we chuckled, b/c if the implication was we must not work b/c we were there... than what was the implication about him as he kept driving around the courthouse)... and then.... "If you don't like the country.... Move!" - to which we chuckled again, since clearly one of the founding principles of this country - freedom of speech - pretty much was driving this guy nuts, and perhaps for his sanity he needed to move somewhere where speech is not free.

15. That it's okay to torture Afghanis
My coworker finally admitted that we had no business in Iraq, so those people shouldn't be tortured. However, some people captured in Afghanistan might be working for Bin Laden, so it's okay to torture them for information. Otherwise, how were we going to win the war?

It old her we won WWII without torturing people, and she turned around and told me face-on that we had. I told her I couldn't speak for every action taken by every American in that war but that it was most assuredly not the practice of the US goverment or military to torture prisoners of war. She insisted -- with no facts or history to back it up -- that we certainly did torture POW's as a matter of policy.

This particular person told a Latino in our company that when someone commits gang violence his/her whole family should be rounded up and sent back to their country. Obviously for her, only Latino immigrants commit gang violence.

That was my psychopathic carpet installer, after he saw the DU sticker on my file cabinet. He was referring to Muslims, I'm sure, but no doubt liberals would be next.

And my boss, during the Poppy/Dukakis race (1988), who left work early on election day (while I was frantically trying to finish my work and get to the polls), and walking past my desk said, "I'm off to go negate your vote."

91. god help her... my favorite ridiculous comment about katrina was when
black people were finding whatever food they could in a flooded city, they were looters and thieves, but when white people did it, they were survivors.

Anyone who says racism no longer exists in force in America is floating through life with blinders on.

I'm sorry you had to go through that with your sister, though. That's very sad. My father is very much like that--though not about blacks. He has very strong prejudices against Arabs though. (I was dating an Egyptian man a few years ago, when 9/11 happened, and it was not pleasant dealing with my father. We are no longer on speaking terms however (me and my father, not me and my ex lol).)

The next one was a (former) friend declaring that he could not endorse equal rights for gays, because the bible says that they aren't entitled to god's glory or riches--whatever.

Oh and then he went on to tell me he was concerned about me because I refuse to attend church--you know, my soul IS in danger. :eyes:

My hubby is in the military (he joined before we ever met), but he knows that this war is immoral and illegal and if he could have done so without ending up in prison, he would have refused to go to Iraq.

(Just wanted to make sure we gave all respect due to those members of the military who are on our side--not all of them are cons.)

138. Yes, somewhat like that
my mom is a faux news viewer and spewer. At Thanksgiving last year we were sitting around watching the news and Bush came on. My mom said something like "I suppose you still hate him" to bait me, my husband got a terrified look in his eyes and I said "Of course I hate him, why wouldn't I? He's a horrible president"

She rolled her eyes up into her head and said "Well at least he didn't get a blow job". It's one of those things people say to be ironic, but from her, she really meant it.

From there it got really ugly, my husband trying to motion for me to end it. I visit my parents on holidays only, mostly because of this giant rift. Sad, but true.

Coward wouldn't finish his sentence. He spent my 50 mins. bragging about how big a hole his guns could blow in someone and what a huge dog he has.

I saw him one time.

He worked at a prison last! So much for rehabilitation. He hates people.

Inpeace and continued hope,

Had no clue in the world about anything. He had Dobson books and literature all over the place. That one didn't last either.

It must be that faith-based initiative funding. I'm in a small town -7500 pop. 12,000 total surrounding area incl. and there are 3, count 'em 3, therapists in the entire town! Unemployment is so bad that McD's only hires maybe once or twice a year! The suicide rate is astonishing.

I've possibly lucked out this time with a nice woman. I don't feel she will turn me in for hating * guts at least! How strange/disgusting to have to look for a therapist using that as a qualification.

Is it fascism yet? Yes.

What a country.

In peace and hope, still.

43. There's lots of trees.
But this was said in Humboldt county, just after Bush was placed in office, and the trees were just starting to come down. By trees I mean old growth redwoods. 8 foot diameter ancients that were a thousand years old. This was said by a woman who has a store in a small town. And the store is situated on a corner where the trucks would come zooming by on the way to the mill. I thought they had stopped logging old growth redwoods, since there are only about 1% of them left. But thank Bush, they started again. And to think they called it Healthy Forests. Bullshit. This was the hardest thing I've ever had to watch. Not the typical truck with ten trees on it. One huge tree per truck. Not unlike seeing the harpooning of a whale.

I said there were only one percent of the trees left. And she said, "There's lots of trees". This is a conservative family owned store. They are multifaceted. They also branch out into land subdivision kinds of shit. Really awful, but friendly, people.

Lots of trees. Not any more. I was highly offended. Little did I know, the worst was yet to come.

145. Man, watching those trucks go by made me cry
I lived outside Arcata for a few months once (in 1997, I think).

Those trees are incredible. Absolutely incredible. Seeing them cut down was like watching man figure out how to kill an ancient God so no one could worship it anymore. Now they worship their TVs on a wooden stand made from the body of these ancient beings.

51. I heard plenty when I was "in the life"
I pissed off some of my then-buddies when I called into local Detroit talk-show back in the early 90s. I was agreeing with the host Marie Kaigler, a black conservative with moderate leanings, that David Duke (who was running for LA governor) was not the way to go. I pretty much argued that his whole "I'm reformed" schtick was just a facade and that, indeed, some of his white-supremacy cohorts were running his campaign. OHHHHH, did I get an earful from the guys for that one. In fact one guy, who was another black conservative, tried to reassure with, and I'm not doing a great job of quoting, "Look, let's say you're right and that he's still a Klansman; at least, you KNOW where he stands! Better than some liberal who'll lie in your face..."

Not making this up.

52. I do remember somethings with me
It wasn't directed towards me but it shocked me. Two things actually. In 2004 in October my Mom had a birthday party with some close friends and family and my mother, cousin and I were coming home from getting something and we passed this house that I know young people live at (college age) and my cousin made her right hand as a gun and went "bamb" to the Kerry/Edwards sign. My mouth hung down in shock. Than that same month I was at church for the morning services and my brother was talking to a family friend and the person said how in her neighborhood anyone who had a Kerry sign would've been shot. Of course that could mean anything but still shocked me and this was right before the sermon that morning. I could tell my brother felt uncomfortable with that since me, him and my mother all voted for Kerry/Edwards. That's really all and one of my good friends asked me who I was voting for and I said "John Kerry" proudly (since I'm a very proud Kerrycrat) and she just said he was a flipflopper and I of course defended him and that's the last time we talked about politics. My two aunts (dad's sisters) said they were "ashamed" of me because I had a Kerry bumper sticker on my car. :eyes: And my grandmother on my dad's side (who is now against Bush) than was wondering why I was "voting against the government." Heh. My dad said: "you know how young people always rebel." :eyes:

A guy in a pickup pulled up next to mine at the gas pump at a convenience store. The driver asked whether I was really going to vote for Kerry.

I responded "why yes, I think I will."

He growled: "You piece of shit!"

As he started to drive off, I said to him:

"well I hope that makes you feel better ... because it sure made you look stupid."

64. Oh boy, where do I start?
I grew up with a pathological radical, right wing nut job--my father.

I cut off all communication with in a few years ago. After some time away from
his dysfunction, I can laugh at his lunacy.

Here are a few examples of his "compassionate conservatism." I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

--My father knew I volunteered at homeless shelters and cared deeply about the issue of homeless children. At my sister's engagement party--a swanky, froo froo event--he said, "Hey! I think I hear a homeless person scratching at the window! I know you care about those types. Why don't you run out and bring them some brie. Would a homeless person know what to do with brie? Hahahaha!"

--My father is a business owner. Despite the fact that his wife will soon be in a wheelchair due to childhood polio, he has utter contempt for anyone with a disability. After the Americans With Disabilities Act was passed, he openly stated that he would not alter his businesses (restaurants) to make them handicap accessible. He still hasn't and refuses.

--I just received my Social Security statement in the mail. It lists how much money I earned each year. During the years that I worked for my father during high school, I probably only worked 20 hours per week, and made around $4,000 per year. However, during those years, my income is listed as under $100. My father didn't claim any income for me during those years, because it would have cost him money to send in 6 percent Social Security taxes on that income. Conversely, my siblings and I were forced to endorse weekly employment checks made out to us. There were seven sibs in my family and each check was for about $200. We never saw the money, we just endorsed the checks. I have no idea what this little scheme was--but I'm sure he was avoiding taxes or increasing his profit margins by exploiting his children.

--My father has hired hundreds of employees during his shallow life. One of them was African American. He told me, "I tried. I tried to hire one of them. However, she was bad. Really bad. It's not my fault that they're that way."

--I used to write a column for a newspaper and I was responding to a reader who didn't like a comment made about a local Indian tribe. My father said, "Hey! Why don't you respond this way! Say, I didn't realize that you people could read! I thought all of you Indians were illiterate, or too drunk or too busy playing bingo. Next time, I'll be more careful!!"

Ah, what class. What tact. What family values. I got a million of these! My brother and I both agree that we should write a book about our life with this narcissistic buffoon. Thank God we escaped...and that we're both well-adjusted Democrats!

:)

83. Yikes! I hate to say it, your father is a white collar criminal.
Sometimes the acorn falls far, far away from the tree, and thank goodness for that, eh? :)

------------------

Well, if anyone is reading this, the worst thing a conservative said to me was, "You'll vote Republican when you get educated." His wife's jaw dropped to the floor; I was just visiting her for a friendly chat. It was a real insult because I worked hard to get my education. I should have looked him in the eye and said, "You mean indoctrinated instead of educated, don't you?" *sigh* The things we think of too late to say them.

I suppose my life would have been totally different had he taken one more step forward instead if backing off. Prison for me I suppose.

That why I have some sympathy for kids that off abusive parents. I could have been in the same place.

along with a few other local examples (Florida has a high homicide rate, like most red states). I asked her if her difficulties with pregnancy might not be a "sign from God" that she was meant to adopt, especially since she pickets abortion clinics. She said her pregnancy difficulties only required "more faith" and ignored the rest.

Oh, and she also rejected the use of painkillers while giving birth-not for health reasons, but because she was determined to "suffer for the sins of Eve" (extreme pain is God's way of punishing women for Eve's tempting of Adam with the apple).

My father is an extreme fundamentalist, right-wing nut job.

When I was 9, he asked me what religion I was. Not realizing what I was walking into, I said "well mom's Catholic--I guess I'm Catholic." I ended up getting a half hour, fire and brimstone lecture on how I was "going to hell."

Not only was I going to hell, so was my sister's cat. It died when she was 6 or 7, and my step mother made sure that she knew the score on that one.

The mentally handicapped boy that went to his church--he was going to hell too. It seems that he didn't have the capacity to understand what it meant to ask Jesus into his heart. My father seemed irritated that they even let me into the building.

161. WOW. Who cares?
In a perfect world you could raid some hollywood special effects studio for two thousand fake corpses in various states of decay and leave them piled up all over her front lawn and doorstep. Find some nice ripe roadkill and throw it in so she gets the smell thing going on too, run a stake into one of the "corpses" on her steps with a sign attached that says "WHO CARES?".

In a perfect world.

I once pointed out that both she and my dad grew up dirt poor on farms in Georgia and she just sputtered and said "but it was different back then, and we worked hard when we were growing up". So I said yes, but you were poor in spite of working hard. More sputtering, and no logical response.

She still believes poor = lazy when she's talking about other people, specifically minorities.

123. When my husband was serving in Iraq and I said how bad it was over there
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 07:58 AM by peacebaby3
and how sick and worried I had been, etc, one of my ex-friend made a horrible comment. Of course, she fully supported * and the war and I can't remember exactly how it came up, but she made the comment that I was not sacrificing. She said my husband was sacrificing, but not me. I told her that I certainly agreed that he was sacrificing a great deal more, but she was completely delusional if she thought that people who have loved ones serving are not sacrificing also.

This was someone I had been really good friends with for over a decade. Just goes to show you how * is a divider and not a uniter because we are no longer friends. I really tried because she said that back in the summer of 2003 and she and I quit talking this past summer because I just couldn't take it anymore after she made a comment about how some of her friends from her church would love to "get a hold of me" and I know she meant that I was not "christian" enough, but I would be more than happy to stand right beside her in front of God any day.

None of these things used to come up or be a problem until the last 3 years or so. Too bad * destroyed a friendship.

On edit: I had several freeptards say horrible things to me on message boards when my husband was in Iraq. Many of them would often tell me that as his wife I was spreading a message from him about how bad the war was and how he didn't support the CIC and that he was violating the UCMJ and as soon as they could figure out who I am and track me down, they were going to report him because he should be court martialed and executed for treason. Several of them also told me that they hoped he was killed while in Iraq because he was a liability for his unit. LOL Yeah, right. I did get a little scared because they were so vicious and threatening, that I was worried they might show up at my house and try to kill me or something. One of them did contact me and say he had my personal information and was going to give it to everyone, but he had my previous address and I had moved a few months earlier...thank goodness.

163. That's scary--but it happens to me too...
My husband is in Iraq now, and I do consider it a risk for both of us for me to do what I do (I am a freelance writer--political commentary/antiwar).

When he first left for Iraq, he had been gone about a week and he called to tell me that one of his COs had read my online journal (I used to post some of my articles to it, just for fun) and wanted me to erase the current entry. I had written a very angry paragraph about how my husband was being sent overseas to fight in an illegal and immoral war (no personal/sensitive information included, no names, no nothing).

I found it really disturbing that they were keeping tabs on me. So I wrote an article for OpEd News and told the story. I was scared for awhile that he might face retribution for what I did, but he supports my work, so I did what I had to do.

Don't let them make you afraid--don't give away your power. (I know it's scary...)

I still have to laugh at the sheer unwitting hypocrisy of it.

On a conservative board during the 2004 election, I made fun of the image of two veterans with great big beer bellies standing up and turning their backs on John Kerry during a speech at the VFW or some such organization. I said maybe these two sad sacks should stand up and turn their backs to the dinner table once in a while. Well, this swiftboating board, which has joined in all summer long spreading shit about Kerry's Purple Hearts, got all huffy and puffy about *my* disrespect to veterans and banned me from the site.

I'm sure the real motive, which they were too unself-aware to realize, was that I was constantly "handing their asses to them" in debate.

Conservatives, especially those who have been poisoned by Bush Christianity, are the meanest, cruelest, most heartless, most selfish, most intolerant, most violent creatures that ever lived.

They have always been that way. They practiced slavery, started almost every war in history, killed 6 million Jews, fought the civil rights movement, gunned down 4 students at Kent State, blew up a building in OKC, and killed a dozen of their classmates in Littleton. As far as I'm concerned, the same kind of people with the same violent beliefs and bloodsoaked goals committed all these acts.

Then I have to first explain that -HELLO! I'm not talking about myself. I'm broke, but I don't make minimum wage. I make three times that and I'm still struggling, so what does that tell you about the people who do live on minimum wage? But to them, a society where a third or more have to scrape by on less than $18K/yr. is totally acceptable! To me that's shocking. I would like to see one of these thugs try to survive on those slave wages. They are sick, evil people.

172. I have two, I don't know which was worse.
First, back in 2002 I had a repub dentist who went back and forth with his assistants on stuff in the news so I knew he was repub. When my husband got laid off from his IT job and we had to go on cobra the nice repub informed me that my husband losing his job was a necessary adjustment in the IT market. When I had to go back for a follow-up, I informed them that my husband had gotten a new job but it was thirty thousand less a year than what he had been making. The asshole dentist that I had for our family for over five years then informs me that we just have to adjust because my husband job was not worth what he was getting paid. I then informed him that my husband was a network architect for global companies and one of the first 400 CCIE (Cisco Certified Information Experts) in the world and worked damn hard and deserved every penny he earned and I would not pay one more cent to an ignorant dentist with an over inflated ego with half the intelligence.

Second is my repub mother-in-law. Before the election I tried to talk some sense into her and her husband. I talked about voting for an alternative to *ush which she immediately brought up Clinton.
I expected this but then she says she could never have respect for that "Dumb bitch" Hillary for standing by Bill Clinton after Lewinski. She said it with such disdain I couldn't believe it. You see, she had confided to me earlier in the year that she was "seeing" a professor in an another state that she had meet online in a geneology chat room! She was having an affair! I looked her straight in the eye and in front of her husband said, "You mean to tell me that you have lived your life in such a way that you have NEVER done anything in which IF you got caught you would want forgiveness???!!!" She turned a color that I had never seen before! I didn't out her but I came damn close! We don't talk much anymore! She doesn't like confiding her little secrets anymore, which is good cause I didn't want to hear them in the first place!

175. My father-in-law said he was pro-choice...
...because he didn't think poor people should be allowed to have kids. His logic goes like this: "Poor people have many kids to get the tax credits, dependent claims, and welfare so they are rewarded financially for big families. If we forced them onto birth control, like the implant methods, then they'd have less financial incentive to stay on welfare, etc..."

I pointed out to him that if his insane view had been realized years earlier, I wouldn't be sitting there before him, as my father had become unemployed during my mother's pregnancy.

He was shocked, like "I know someone who was poor?!" (sigh)

He also made a veiled allusion to sterilizing poor people one time, but I think the utter horror on my face made him realize he "shouldn't say this stuff" in front of lefty daughter-in-law...

178. "Your son is an abomination and should be shot"
my son is gay.....

Said to me by MORE than one conservative, in a couple of ways:

"Your son is a freak and should be gotten rid of"
"Your son is a godless heathen and God will punish him for it"
"All faggots like your son should be rounded up, put in a pen and used for target practice"

Got this from supposed God fearin males and females.

Fuck em. God WILL punish someone, it just will not be my son.
