Here's a fun thing to try!!!! |
|
Find out which pharmacies in your area don't carry the "morning after" emergency contraception.
Then, call those pharmacies and tell them that you represent the Church of Scientology and that you demand that they stop carrying anti-depressants.
When they resist, inform them that you are aware that they succumbed to pressure from Christian groups to not carry emergency contraception, and tell them that they are displaying religious discrimination by capitulating to the Christians while ignoring the heartfelt religious beliefs of the Scientologists.
Get ten friends to call, and have each of them get ten friends to call. Make sure they talk in an alternating brainwashed monotone / manic desperation! Or, if you have lots of time, you yourself can call over and over again while disguising your voice. If it helps, rent a John Travolta Sci-Fi DVD (you know which one) and play it in the background. You may also try jumping on a couch when you call.
Guaranteed HOURS of AMUSEMENT!!

1. Oh no! Please don't make them stop carrying my Prozac! |
|
But seriously, I wonder if that would work?

2. Tell them to stop carrying Viagra, too, as it promotes promiscuity. ;-) |

That ought to shake up the ol' boys.

4. That would work except - Don't say you "represent the Church of |
|
Scientology" that could result in legal DIFFICULTIES under some circumstances that COULD develop. Read up on Scientology and then say you are a Scientologist. No one can go after you for saying that.

When they ask for your name, give some made-up crap. Tom Travolta, or John Cruise, or something.
Or, if you REALLY want to start trouble, contact the actual Church of Scientology and tell them that THEY should do this. They are crazy enough that they might actually try it. You can then sit back and watch.
I appreciate your cautious words however. Scientology uses lawsuits like the medieval catholic church used thumbscrews.

I haven't been able to figure out why nobody on the left is tossing around the Scientology / Antidepressants rebuttal to this idiotic garbage.
It seems pretty obvious.

7. LMAO I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MA just passed a law requiring |
|
all pharmacies in the state to keep EC in stock.
It's a step, but the rest of the country deserves the same protection.

10. A question about your plans: |
|
A good friend of mine in San Diego works in a pharmacy... She speaks of long hours on her feet, no lunch, and difficult customers. Why would you want to make this gal's life even more difficult? It may seem, at first glance, like 'hours of amusement' to YOU, but SHE'D have to get all her regular work done AND deal with all of you calling, asking, and taking up the time she says she has too little of even now...
She's just one of us common folk working...:dilemma:

13. Sorry. Did I not mention |
|
that you should ask to speak to the manager? Or the owner? Or the Corporate Headquarters? Or whichever dipshit made the decision to deny customers a safe, legal madical treatment because of religious bullshit?
I'm not advocating busting on some underpaid pharmacy tech who's busting her ass trying to make ends meet. If, on the other hand, she IS a pharmacist who refuses to dispense EC on the basis that it violates her religious principles, then tell her to get a new job. If a waitress refused to serve you a pork chop in a restaraunt because she was Jewish, you'd demand she be fired.
This is no different.
Welcome to DU, btw!

16. Does she work at a pharmacy that refuses to carry the morning after pill? |
|
IF so, she may want to reconsider her workplace. Pharmacists have lots of job options. BTW, I don't think they are the ones who answer the phone, anyway. MKJ

...the head pharmacist took his place answering the phone, taking med orders, filling them, and ringing up the sales/answering the line of people with questions just like his assistants did. Even so, it's hard to think of a justification for throwing a wrench into their day so completely.
It's not always easy to find another job and, because the pharmacy is part of a huge grocery chain, they themselves don't set store policy on what they sell and what they don't. Those orders come down the grapevine from management the same as in any factory or office.

18. So your friend is a pharmacist at a large chain that doesn't sell the |
|
morning after pill.
Which chain is it? We could call their regional offices, instead. That would be helpful information and keep calls going to the right people! MKJ

20. You stray from the point. |
|
I posted in response to a call for many phone calls, and hours' long phonework meant to disrupt an ordinary pharmacy's day of business in order to protest a refusal to give out the morning after pill.

A pharmacy at a large grocery chain??? Excellent, Smithers! Let us call their corporate offices and tell them that as Jews, we insist that they stop selling ham and bacon and shellfish!!!
Also, you may wish to call Wal-mart and tell them to stop selling riding mowers in the Lawn and Garden Center because it offends your Amish sensibilities!!! If there's one demographic Wal-mart doeesn't want to piss off, it's the Amish!

24. I wouldn't hesitate to call the retailer's regional offices if they refuse |
|
to stock that particular medication because of "religious" beliefs.
This is not some exotic, high priced drug...it's something that's been around for decades. So, my call would be specifically around their forming policies based on theological considerations rather than filling prescriptions from physicians.
