Union action directed at Bush Board
URGENT URGENT URGENT
Re: urging NMB to NOT release the UTU and BLET from the mediation process of the Railway Labor Act in the handling of the current national negotiations.
This request is the most urgent we have ever sent you. Your job, your retirement, and your safety are all dependent on the outcome of our contacting the National Mediation Board, today and every day until a favorable decision is made. Contact them by e-mail, telephone and fax--use all three, every day. If you have unlimited long distance, call several times. Here are the contact numbers.

Please call, fax and e-mail each of these people every day until we receive a positive response that our message has been received and accepted.

Carrier fax machines should not be used.

By separate e-mail (because some of you have computers/programs which won't allow you to receive such a large file) and snail mail I will send you a complete packet of information from the International. It includes contact information, sample letters and information you need to make your contacts with the NMB. However, I urge you not to wait until you get the mail. Start now! Get everyone to start now! It is IMPERATIVE that the job is done--you're not doing it for me. You're doing it for yourself and your family. It is worth the price of a phone call or a fax--it's YOUR job, YOUR retirement, YOUR safety that's at stake here.

The International recommends that a single person in a locality take the responsibility for faxing all the letters.

In your letter tell the NMB

Our two unions are entitled to our day in court and until a decision is rendered regarding the legality of the Carriers’ demands, no action should be taken to release the UTU and BLET from Mediation.
The safety issues that will impact the public and rail industry as a result of reducing crew size need to be thoroughly investigated and researched.
Furthermore, it is imperative that we research the effect reduced crew size will have on our nation’s rail system during these times of heightened security and terrorist attacks.
The reduction of crew size and the economic effect of the Carriers’ demands on the Railroad Retirement System need to be calculated and to date this has not been completed.
