George W. Bush has been chosen via Gallup as the most admired man in 2005???????
How can this be? What changed in such a few days to give him such popularity and such a big gain in job approval ratings????????
I am confused.....

3. How I wish is were so...... |
|
That would make more sense to me given that his job ratings were in the toilet - under 50 percent.....acutally hovering around 40 percent....and then suddenly he job ratings sky rocket over 10 points and he is most admired man????????
I mean - I know I was away from it all for a few days....but come on!

10. Here's Why (My Theory) |
|
Presidents are often the most admired man, just as first ladies are often most admired women.
Let's say you polled 50 Republicans and 50 Democrats about Most Admired Man. I know it doesn't exactly work this way, but just for my example. Now, most of the Republicans think Dubya is doing a super-duper job so they're going to vote for him. Others may even be somewhat dissatisfied with the job he is doing, but still say they admire him 'cos they sort of respect what he is trying to do. Others, like Democrats may think he's doing an absolutely horrible job. Now, who is our most admired man? Some of those disgruntled Republicans are going to say John McCain, others might say Bill Gates. Who are Democrats going to name? John Kerry, Jimmy Carter, Bono, etc...
The not Dubya vote is divided, while his vote is strong.

11. Also, for a lot of people, Bush is the only well-known figure they can |
|
think of except sit-com stars, so they give his name. If I remember that poll, he won with a vote somewhere in the 20% range, so that's actually a piss-poor rating for a sitting president. And for the most admired woman, I think Pickles came in at about 4th, while Hillery led the list. The First Lady almost always wins.

According to a MSNBC poll - over 80 percent favor impeaching Bush.....and that poll was over 185 000 people.
Nope - something just isn't right with the gallup poll. What did they do - poll the white house itself? Or what part of the nation is so red as to assure these sorts of results?
I guess I sort of understand what you are suggesting - the office of president is something to be admired.....the office......not the man who occupies it. The man who occupies it has instituted torture and random spying as regular policy in spite of the laws of the land. I cannot get my head around how he would be admired for such an attack on the principles of America. Are people so lazy as to not keep abreast with news?

13. It's Not Just The Office |
|
it's the divided vote factor.
I also wonder how they conduct the poll, do they give people a list of names from which to pick or are people supposed to come up with their own name? If we were to take a poll on DU, can you imagine how the vote would be split?
