Flash back to 2001... who did Jr put in charge of anti terrorism efforts? |
|
Cheney. He was to coordinate efforts from different agencies as head of a WH taskforce. At the same time he was also chair of the Energy task force.
How many meetings did each group have? Many for the energy task force (though information is still being kept secret and being dealt with in courts due to said secrecy) - and exactly 0 for the terrorism task force.
So when Cheney trots out and tells us how important the NSA spying is - and makes the spurious comment that it would have allowed the capture of the "San Diego two" (a point debunked by Sen Bob Graham) - remember that he was absent from duty. Remember that there was a huge report (Hart/Rudman) delivered to the admin during transition that listed a series of policies/moves that could be followed to prevent an attack, and the report stayed closed and shelved. Remember the lack of response to the warnings given by Richard Clarke. And most of all remember that getting tax payer giveaways to oil and energy companies was a much bigger priority to Dick Cheney than even holding a single meeting of a taskforce he was charged with to keep citizens safe from terrorist attack.

per the cheney bush assertion of the San Diego two (reading this reminded me of Cheney's role as point man in the admin for terrorism - which he handled so differently and with disinterest when compared to the other issue he was made pointman for (energy) for which he started having task force meetings almost immediately. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x189115
