Maybe we'll get a reprieve from the grass fires today.
Much cooler wind, light and from the north. For 3/4 of a mile south west of me there is nothing but dry grass and lots of it. Bordered by a 4 lane hyway. to the north and east is a small creek bordered by a lot of trees that will help with the wind.
If it ain't bush* it is mother nature trying to scare the shit out of us. Whats a person to do.

1. The smoke forced us to close our windows yesterday
Once the temperature hit the 80s, I opened up the house. About two hours later grass fires to the west of us ignited and filled the air with smoke. Even though we were a few miles away it was so bad we had to close all the windows.

Our lawn is nothing but tender. All the neighbors are jumpy, waiting to run out and grab garden houses to douse any fires that erupt.

3. I heard one of the local weathermen say we were 12" below normal rainfall
That in itself doesn't sound good, I hope our trees make it ok.

I certainly hope so....
Houston's had a pretty dry year--but that mostly means that lawns are having it tough.

We did get some Gulf moisture during the summer. The Gulf serves to moderate our weather--& only occasionally tries to kill us.
