Testify under oath for a blowjob, but not to protect the Constitution?
I am livid that Specter did not make Gonzales testify under oath for these NSA wiretapping hearings. WTF! And how quaint of Gonzoid to offer to take an oath when he doesn't give a shit about what one means anyway as he has shown previously at his confirmation hearing.
:grr:

What does it mean to swear under oath?

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=oath
#

1. A solemn, formal declaration or promise to fulfill a pledge, often calling on God, a god, or a sacred object as witness.
2. The words or formula of such a declaration or promise.
3. Something declared or promised.

1 : a solemn attestation of the truth of one's words or the sincerity of one's intentions; specifically : one accompanied by calling upon a deity as a witness
2 : a promise (as to perform official duties faithfully) corroborated by an oath —compare PERJURY—under oath : under a solemn and esp. legal obligation to tell the truth (as when testifying)
Source: Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Law, © 1996 Merriam-Webster, Inc.

2: a commitment to tell the truth (especially in a court of law); to lie under oath is to become subject to prosecution for perjury 3: a solemn promise, usually invoking a divine witness, regarding your future acts or behavior; "they took an oath of allegiance"

oath

a solemn appeal to God, permitted on fitting occasions (Deut. 6:13; Jer. 4:2),
in various forms (Gen. 16:5; 2 Sam. 12:5; Ruth 1:17; Hos. 4:15; Rom. 1:9 and
taken in different ways (Gen. 14:22; 24:2; 2 Chr. 6:22). God is represented as
taking an oath (Heb. 6:16-18), so also Christ (Matt. 26:64), and Paul (Rom.
9:1; Gal. 1:20; Phil. 1:8). The precept, "Swear not at all," refers probably to
ordinary conversation between man and man (Matt. 5:34,37). But if the words are
taken as referring to oaths, then their intention may have been to show "that
the proper state of Christians is to require no oaths; that when evil is
expelled from among them every yea and nay will be as decisive as an oath,
every promise as binding as a vow."

Source: Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary

Of course we know that most in this administration will rarely ever testify under oath for anything. Wouldn't want to add perjury charges to their charges of WAR CRIMES.

May I remind everyone that neither * or the dick would testify under oath in front of the Kean Commission, regarding the events of Sept. 11, 2001. And Kindsleezy only finally did under extreme duress.

Honest people with nothing to hide would testify under oath.

Even Clinton did when he intended to lie about his sex life knowing there would be consequences.

Enough said.

In peace and waning hope,

1. Misguided thread

The swearing in of Clinton was over the Whitewater affair, it was Ken Starr who totally hijacked that investigation after failing to find any muck on Clinton, and sideswiped him with the Monica Lewinsky trap.

I'm just so damned mad right now I forgot it started out about Whitewater!

Specter, sessions, Grassley, all of those repuke assholes are only there to protect idiot boy and his minions crimes.

I am so frustrated and angry.

2. They didn't make the oil barons take an oath either, even though
Boxer asked them to.

That way the Republicans can put on a show and no one can be held accountable for their responses or lies to the American people.
Don't trust Specter.

7. Thanks for the suggestion bushmeat, I wish everyone
would stop being afraid to show their contempt and display signs at their homes along with the freeway blogging! I really believe most people are afraid, not just of the government, but of what their neighbors, friends and families would think.

I actually have one in my front yard. I live off a busy highway, for my area anyway, and have *BUSH LIES* with peace signs and the no W sign in black letters on a fluorescent green background. It's 2ft. x 4ft. I keep forgetting to take and post a pic.

I would be the first suspect here if any freeway blogging was done. The entire town would suspect me. Even if someone else did it I would be arrested! I write my share of ltte. :)

I'm not giving up yet bushmeat and thanks for helping lift my spirit today!

In peace and hope,
V

anymore! I think it is now outrage meltdown! :nuke: :grr: :nuke: :grr: :nuke:

Where do we go from here?

I haven't a clue anymore. I used to believe our efforts would make a difference, now I am having great doubts.

Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Is it time for a call to arms yet?!

Viva la Revolution!!

Is there a word for that I wonder?

How can we put them on the ropes? There has got to be some way no one has thought of yet. There just has to be something!

18. Answer to question #1: hyper-hypocritical
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 02:22 PM by Kurovski
Answer to question #2: A release of the backlog of citizens' anger will find the way. The end of America's patience will be the trigger. Enough will be enough for both the overly cautious, the timid and the slumbering.

They'll finally look up the word "fascist" in encyclopedias.

They'll re-read and grasp The Constitution.

They will realise they live in "the home of the brave" and tell Bush to take his fear-mongering ways back to his ranch-ette in Crawford and keep it there.

They'll discover their representatives anew, they'll get rid of the representatives who fail at their jobs, and they'll even discover, and then demand an end to election fraud.

Okay, so you can say it's more of a fantastical guess than an answer, but I have a dream.

20. You are so good!
hyper-hypocritical It does go beyond!

I remind people of fascism everytime I drive my car. I have a bumper sticker that says: JustSayNotoFascism.com

Maybe some will drag out a dictionary and think about it. And see.

I like your dream and share it Kurovski. Let's hope it happens before it is too late!

In peace and hope,

10. The B.S. argument that "Gonzales is a trustworthy man...."
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 04:24 AM by file83
I pose, if swearing to the oath is good enough for all other Americans, why isn't it good enough for Gonzales? Seriously, if anything, do it for the sake of appearances. It's conditioning - they want to beat it into skulls that these guys are "above" the common man.

Beyond that, Alberto Gonzales was there to answer questions that are VERY serious. This isn't some testimony concerning some stupid appropriations bill - this is testimony that goes to the very heart of everything our country is founded on, right to privacy: The Executive Branch conducting unilateral top secret surveillance of Americans inside the United States.

No checks.
No balances.
No oversight.
Total secrecy.
Total control.
Total 1984.

11. Setting the stage for other witnesses?
If Gonzo doesn't have to testify under oath because he's trustworthy, how can you ask other witnesses who follow him to testify under oath? Wouldn't the act of requiring it now for other administration officials indicate that they are not trustworthy?

In other words, was this setting the stage for far worse?

Another question: Do you really think Specter came up with this play on his own? Or was this "moderate" Republican senator instructed to do this?

The world is a stage, especially Bush-World.

Wat.

17. Hi Wat, welcome! They are setting
the stage for far worse. I only wish we knew exactly what. Specter is a stooge lapdog, has been for many years.

I think we are getting clues here and there. KBR detention centers, executions can possibly be ordered by the president on American soil, dissenters labeled felons, free speech zones, secret prisons, etc...

It's like a huge twilight zone jigsaw puzzle that you never had the box to so you have no idea what the picture will be when finished. As you fit the pieces you try to warn others and are ridiculed. You see the nightmare forming with each new piece and no one will listen.

They will only listen when it is too late I'm afraid.

In peace and waning hope,
V

16. Wouldn't want to insult such a trustworthy man!
They insulted every decent American with that bullshit ploy by Specter!:grr:

I think that is one of the most frightening things of all lately. They are so confident that there is nothing that can be done to stop them they are getting to the point where they aren't bothering much with appearances. It is getting worse.

When do they crown the king? Wait, they did crown Moon that time. Does that make him higher than *?!
