Are these cartoons anti-Islam or anti-Islamic Fundies? |
|
What I mean is, are these cartoons attacking Islam itself, or those that wrap themselves in Islam to further their own goals? From most of the cartoons I've seen, it looks like the latter. It seems to me that the cartoonists are lampooning those who commit terrorism in Allah's name. In which case, it isn't hate speech at all, it's satire.
We ridicule Christians when they get pissed off and threaten to boycott over things they don't like. Of course, not all Christians fall in the same bunch as the vocal minority. Same with the Islamic community. There are over a billion Muslims in the world today. Even if only 0.5% of the entire Muslim population were up in arms, that would still be over five million - still a very large number, but a minority nonetheless.

1. Let's just walk away from this one |

This particular issue although controversial, only gives more fuel to the fire that fox puts out there. I would say it is better for dems to stick to the more pressing issues than those outside most of our control.

Although not all of them are even anti-Islamic extremist.
I haven't seen one good critique of the cartoons that explains what is racist or bigoted about them. It amounts to saying that John Lennon's "Imagine" is bigoted, ya know? Anyone who says that, doesn't understand the song.
