Lab officials excited by new H-bomb project
By Ian Hoffman, STAFF WRITER

For the first time in more than 20 years, U.S. nuclear-weapons scientists are designing a new H-bomb, the first of probably several new nuclear explosives on the drawing boards.

If they succeed, in perhaps 20 or 25 more years, the United States would have an entirely new nuclear arsenal, and a highly automated factory capable of turning out more warheads as needed, as well as new kinds of warheads.

"We are on the verge of an exciting time," the nation's top nuclear weapons executive, Linton Brooks, said last week at Lawrence Livermore weapons design laboratory.

Who the hell are we going to use this thing on?

...Lawrence Livermore just last week? To stop a ground assault from terrorists in No. California?

Protesters are a far more likely group to show up in this blue zone at a place developing more powerful H-bombs.

Feb. 2 - KGO - Like all major nuclear facilities, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is very concerned about security in this age of terrorism. Now the lab has a new weapon -- a high powered Gatling gun.

A security officer at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory showed off the new weapon, an electrically powered six-barreled Gatling gun.

A videotape the lab provided showed the gun in action. Capable of firing up more than 50 rounds per second, the gun will augment the security force already in place equipped with automatic weapons.

The new weapon is designed to help protect the lab from a ground assault -- a squad of highly trained terrorists intent on storming the lab to steal nuclear materials.

5. Well...this sure sends the right message to Iran.
You can't have even one, now pardon us while we design an entire new super deadly nuclear arsenal...including a frickin' H-bomb assembly line.

8. Read BETWEEN the lines - Did you catch it?
From the article:
"Designers are aiming for bombs that will be simpler, easier to maintain over decades and, if they fell into terrorists' hands, able to be remotely destroyed or rendered useless."

Say what? Now why would it be necessary to worry about a situation like that? When have any of the United States Military's nuclear weapons "fallen into terrorists' hands"?

Kind of makes you wonder, if you catch my drift.

The most startling insight, is that now, if a nuclear device goes off in a major US city, and the radioactive signature of the device shows that it came from the US weapons aresenal, they have a new scapegoat: terrorists. They can now say, "unfortunately our nuclear device must have fallen into the terrorists' hands - but no worry, we have NEW nukes that rule out the possiblility of this happening ever again, thanks to the forsight of the President."

It's not like a "WMD" from the US arsenal hasn't shown up before on our soil. Remember the Anthrax attacks in late 2001? Those spores were found to be not only "weapons grade", but they were discovered to have come from the US aresenal.

So, it makes me wonder, what do they have planned for us?
