D.U. Friends,

After the 04 election, the Democracy Cell Project began the arduous task of trying to link up progressive causes to fight for democracy and to become a community that would become a bridge connecting progressive organizations while helping people educate, empower, and activate others both locally and nationally.


Now, 06 is here. It's time for the BIG push. The time MUST start now. We MUST fight apathy, fear, ignorance, and job stress and really push ourselves and others to get involved. Knowing how busy people are, we've created the 5 minutes of democracy a day that even the most busy person can do.

This week, we are asking for every D.U er and every blogger to get involved starting right now. On our homepage, you will see that we've posted the assignment and it's very important.

JANUARY 7: National Day of Town Hall Forums on Ending the War


AND...

JANUARY 9: Thousands of concerned citizens will call members of Congress on Jan. 9 and demand the censures of Bush and Cheney and investigations into possible impeachable offenses committed by them. Callers participating in this grassroots National Call for Accountability Day will urge their representatives to cosponsor Rep. Conyers’ bills: H.Res.635 to create a select committee to investigate and to make recommendations on grounds for impeachment, H.Res.636 to censure Bush, and H.Res.637 to censure Cheney.

AND...


JANUARY 31: drown out the Bush regime. PLAN NOW for drum circles, choirs singing, tap dancing, noisemakers, etc. during the speech in your local areas.

The following Saturday, FEBRUARY 4, come to Washington D.C. for a huge message--the END of the Bush regime.

the white house ourselves. Even if it is Congress that finally acts, it will be in response to the action on the streets.

If we're going to succeed in driving out this regime, we need to think big and plan big. Disgust with the Bush agenda has been growing as increased revelations come out about spying and wiretaps-on
top of the war, the torture, threatening Roe v. Wade…
In order to make a critical impact, we need to have 5000-10,000 people gathering in a very public place that represents the Bay Area and will get serious media coverage. Union Square can hold a lot more people and will be impossible for the media to ignore. There will be activities and teach-ins going on earlier in the day (we'll keep you posted).

...is both such seductive quantification of public opinion AND so easily misinterpeted that it is possible for candidates to be told that the populace overwhelmingly fancies torture and brutality.

I was a Sociology major. It is entirely possible that pollsters are often wrong. No matter how large the sample size...

I imagine they showed Kerry plenty of polls in the 80s and 90s to keep him from investigating BCCI....
