This is what happens when Buxh makes appointments based on their loyalty.
Loyalty to him and not to the country.

As an aside...I wonder if, given that Gonzales went to the hospital to persuade Ashcroft to reconsider the wiretapping, is that why Ashcroft decided to "step down"
