Conservatives ask: Is Bush still one of us? (Cons pissed off after SOTU)
WASHINGTON - From the moment George W. Bush began campaigning for the Oval Office in 1999, White House watchers have wondered what kind of president he would be: The Ronald Reagan of his generation? Like his father, the first President Bush? Perhaps even, in some ways, similar to Bill Clinton?

This year's State of the Union address, which was panned by a chorus of conservative commentators, has intensified the debate about Bush's political philosophy.

The Wall Street Journal editorial page accused President Bush of playing "miniball," code for a Clintonian love of "small political ideas." Robert Novak reported private concern among congressional conservatives that Mr. Bush was moving toward bigger government. George Will called Bush's most memorable line - that America is addicted to oil - "wonderfully useless."

"He's conservative by temperament; many of his policy positions, such as cutting taxes, are on the right side of the political spectrum," says John Green, a political scientist at the University of Akron in Ohio. "But he doesn't have a consistent set of conservative principles. That's what a lot of the complaint has been about, especially after the State of the Union."

1. Yeah...
...that's a real problem. He's just not right wing enough.

Maybe he should hang a few "darkies" from a tree in front of the White House just to earn his RW bona fides.

Until then, I guess the constant corporate fellatio will just have to suffice.

Cry me a river...

2. I posted on this earlier, regarding the proposed budget
Many conservatives are pissed that Bush is spending too much, that government spending has increased under his administration. What I usually hear is "Bush is spending worse than the Democrats".

6. Absolutely!
He's a HUGE spender, so anyone who considers themselves a fiscal conservative and is even remotely honest with themselves has got to admit, he is a dismal failure in that regard.

4. It's clear that
intelligent life long conservatives of the George Will set are not W's base. I'm pretty sure his base understands he's not going to do anything he talked about.

5. Bush appeals to the religious conservatives - to hell with the fiscal ones
Fiscal conservatives are a boring bunch - hell, just look at Steve Forbes. Now those religious ones, those are the ones you can whip into a frenzy, the ones who will defend you no matter what you say or do.

7. He's got the religious cons snowed
The man doesn't even go to church! All he has done is throw a few references to Jesus around. Has he ever done anything to show he's truly religious?

8. Maybe they're starting to figure it out -
Bush does whatever the fuck he wants. He's a radical, period.
