At least one of John Kerry's staffers seems uncomfortable when...
you refer to "President-Elect Kerry" as opposed to "Senator Kerry."

"Uhm... the election was two years ago. Senator Kerry didn't win."

"Yes, he did..."

I wouldn't call just to see for yourself, but if you happen to be calling for something else, maybe you can try it out.

For example, if you're calling to ask him to vote "No" on Senate Bill 852, the Halliburton Asbestos Bail-Out

2. Thanks Ian !
I enjoyed that!

The guy I spoke with didn't offer any resistance to me referring to the President Elect.

:)

3. Hint: It's not a staffer you talked to.
It's an intern. Huge difference. They barely know what they're doing in the first place.

4. Like the guy at Senator Nelson's office that Said "fuck you" to me?
Is Senator Nelson's (D-NE) staffer allowed to say "Fuck You" to me?

9. I still find that...insane.
I've had some contentious discussions with the staffers of our reps, but that is...way beyond.

5. There's a pretty obivious reason they would be uncomfortable
You called his Senate office. He is not the President-elect (though there are many of us who would dearly love that to be the case, including almost certainly every person who works in Kerry's office.) Imagine the embarrasment if people called using this title all the time and it became common knowledge. Then imagine some RW jerk calling while on the radio and having Kerry's office not contradict it. Senator Kerry is a very serious public servant who works very hard - the press has tried for decades to make him look silly. I assume he expects a level of profeeionalism from everyone working in his office because their behavior can reflect on him.

8. John Kerry isn't President but he is President-Elect
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 06:53 AM by IanDB1
He won Ohio and he won the election.

That makes him President-Elect.

And Al Gore is Former-President-Elect Al Gore.

11. I disagree with that.
It smacks of denial. He lost. Whether it was by fraud or not, Kerry lost. He is not the President-Elect. He is a US Senator and he can go forward by trying to work on getting rid of the fraud that did occur. But it won't change anything and little deceptions like this only make that job harder.

10. Yeah. Some (most?) are rightly paranoid to protect Kerry from more
charges that he or a member of his staff (or one of his distant cousins, or perhaps, a beloved pet) claimed "on the record" that Kerry believes something about the election he may or may not believe. Why help to circulate more rumors about things Kerry and/or Kerry's pets actually said? There's enough of that crap on these boards as it is.

12. You make very good points. I'll stop calling him "President-Elect"...
in official communications and with staffers and such.

You're right.

It could be misconstrued and make his job harder.
