GET OFF YOUR ASS - Update: A Democratic turncoat in my neighborhood...
...may have outed a former neighbor of ours to the Bush administration a year or two ago.

I just found this out a couple of days ago, and I am stunned. The man who was squealed on was an American citizen with a PhD. His crime? Being a Muslim of Middle Eastern descent.

Now he's gone. No, he hasn't been spirited off to Gitmo, but he just got to the point where he couldn't trust anyone in our neighborhood anymore. Apparently the FBI or CIA or someone was hounding him and milking his neighbors for info. Some friendships were severed forever because of Big Brother picking on this poor guy.

I'm keeping the details of how I found all this out a secret. Suffice it to say that the DINO turncoat is also gone, and I am so glad I may become precinct chair in a month, because I intend to put a hard stop to this bullshit in my neck of the woods.

Some of you on DU have also volunteered to seek precinct chair positions in your own county parties. The rest of you, please consider it carefully. I think it may be time for us to DU the Democratic Party itself.

1. Good for you--
becoming precinct leader. I feel horrible for the Muslim man that vanished. Words escape me, it's just horrible...

2. Remember when they wanted letter carriers to tattle of people's mail?
My dad said he'd rather be sent to Gitmo than participate in shrubbie's witch hunt.

I can not believe people turning their nieghbors in for simply being of Middle Eastern decent and a Muslim. McCarthy is having a great laugh at the legacy he left. And Murrow is rolling in his grave.

4. Well, ya know what is very odd about all that? It might be still
happening.

We have close friends in Spain, who have been like family for coming up on fifty years. When one of my family wrote to get word of an elderly member of that clan, who is nearing the end of his life, the letter that came back had been "accidentally" opened and was sent to us in a plastic bag with a little bullshit explanation that it got caught up in the equipment. Well, it didn't look mangled at all to me....

And this was right around the time of the troubles over in Madrid....

It does feel a bit like a police state, nowadays. And it ain't paranoia, it's common sense, I fear.

3. I had a student
His name is Mohammed, and he is from Tanzania. His wife is from here in the Midwest.

When they stayed, briefly, with her parents, one of the neighbors called the FBI.

Because his name was Mohammed.

7. I know -- absolutely insane
And here is a guy who loves the U.S., plans to finish his degree and go back to Tanzania. He will forever be an ambassador for our country, unless we completely disillusion him with our ignorance.

He was sweet though, he saw it as an anomaly. :-)

9. Call the democrats on the Judicary committee
Try to see if they can get witnesses. Will they? This is outrageous! I remember sometime last year or the year before listening to Mike Webb's show and this guy called in who was Middle eastern (he had a heavy accent still) and was at a restaurant eating dinner and when he got home he was arrested. The waitress heard him talking and "thought he was a terrorist" by his accent. They didn't tell him why he was being arrested and gave him no lawyer. He was released seventy-four hours later because he was innocent and corporated. Try to find the film "UnConstitutional" which is about the "Patriot Act" and how months after 9/11 they arrested people of Arab decent for no purpose at all and kept them in jail forever with no charges.
