Why is John Baldacci in trouble in Maine?
Gov. Baldacci has only a 41% approval rating and garners no more than 39% against three possible Republican challengers.

Any Maine DUers out there--why is Baldacci seemingly vulnerable. Thanks

1. Same reason a lot of governors are struggling. ** gave us a huge
financial burden and we are struggling to balance funds and programs.

Try posting this in the Maine forum and I am sure you will get more (and better) specifics about what is going on here.

4. This is the part I don't get
People bitch and moan that the state doesn't have enough money, sometimes for essential services, and they vote out the Democrats thinking they are not fiscally responsible all the time not realizing that it was the frigging Republicans in Congress and at the White House who hamstrung them!

5. too many people can't seem to be able to put 2+2 together
but in a state like Maine I thought they would be able to.

7. Irritating, eh? Just don't forget we have our share of
paleocons, neocons, and religious right voters too. They'll screw things up for the progressives whenever they get a chance.

8. What's an essential service
Alot of people don't think much of anything except roads and state cops are essential services. So they just want to keep voting in Republicans to keep paring down government until only the basics are left and people take care of their own lives all by themselves. Not particularly realistic, but that's the way alot more people think than some would care to believe.

10. Retired corporate whores living on a good income
There are plenty of them here in Maine and they have driven up the cost of living and land values where a fisherman can't afford to keep his boat dock.

12. Tell me about it. Castine is fast becoming a retirement community though
we have plenty of yuppies who commute to Bangor for work and summah folk from away who own most of the rest of the property. A lousy 1970s prefab ranch on 2 swampy, scrubby acres goes for $300,000 here. We can't even scrape together $100,000 to get out of this single-wide into a double-wide.

13. I live right down the road from you.
I do like the book sale in Castine though. Lots of good books, cheap.

2. That's Got To Be Bullshit
My brother lives near Bangor Maine and says people love the guy. And I only hear praises for him. I have a funny feeling Rasmussen might be pulling a PR stunt to damage Baldacci's support.
