The highest level of patriotism one can do is defend their constitutional rights at home and abroad. And one of those freedoms is clearly stated in the 4th amendment of the bill of rights:

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

So by supporting Bush's wiretapping program by saying things like "oh, I've got nothing to hide" or "I'll gladly trade some of my freedoms if it means preventing another 9/11", guess what? You're giving away your fundamental rights guaranteed to us by the US Constitution. And that is unpatriotic.

So the next time you or the RNC or the right wing hate radio mongerers like Limbaugh or Hannity spouts that bullshit again, just remember that your patriotism, which you so proudly proclaim you have against the "evil left" is being questioned every time you're willing to trade away your freedoms in the hopes that it MIGHT prevent another 9/11.
