NOVEMBER 14th! NOVEMBER 14th!! NOVEMBER 14th!!! NOVEMBER 14!!!!

REMEMBER! THIS IS BEING SWEPT UNDER THE RUG!!! HOLD THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WHOLESALE SLAUGHTER OF INNOCENT IRAQIS AND THE NEEDLESS SACRIFICE OF OUR BRAVE FIGHTING MEN AND WOMEN ON THE ALTAR OF GREED AND LIES.

DU, let's email, and fax and call the shit out of Roberts' office and ask that lying sack of shit where phase II is! THE WORLD DESERVES TO KNOW!

"Phase two" of the investigation

At the time of the report's release (July 9, 2004), Democratic members of the committee expressed the hope that "phase two" of the investigation, which was to include an assessment of how the Iraqi WMD intelligence was used by senior policymakers, would be completed quickly. Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS) said of phase two, "It is a priority. I made my commitment and it will get done."

On March 10, 2005, during a question-and-answer session after a speech he had given at the Woodrow Wilson Center, Senator Roberts said of the failure to complete phase two, "hat is basically on the back burner." Senator John D. Rockefeller (D-WV), vice chairman of the Committee, made a statement later that day in which he said, "The Chairman agreed to this investigation and I fully expect him to fulfill his commitment... While the completion of phase two is long overdue, the committee has continued this important work, and I expect that we will finish the review in the very near future."

In a statement regarding the release of the report of the presidential WMD commission on March 31, 2005, Senator Roberts wrote, "I don’t think there should be any doubt that we have now heard it all regarding prewar intelligence. I think that it would be a monumental waste of time to replow this ground any further."

On April 10, 2005, Senators Roberts and Rockefeller appeared together on NBC's Meet the Press program. In response to a question about the completion of phase two of the investigation, Roberts said, "I'm perfectly willing to do it, and that's what we agreed to do, and that door is still open. And I don't want to quarrel with Jay, because we both agreed that we would get it done. But we do have--we have Ambassador Negroponte next week, we have General Mike Hayden next week. We have other hot-spot hearings or other things going on that are very important."

Moderator Tim Russert then asked Senator Rockefeller if he believed phase two would be completed, and he replied, "I hope so. Pat and I have agreed to do it. We've shaken hands on it, and we agreed to do it after the elections so it wouldn't be any sort of sense of a political attack. I mean that was my view; it shouldn't be viewed that way."

On August 2, 2005, Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) released the text of a letter she had sent to Senator Roberts, saying, in part, “I am increasingly dismayed by the delay in completing the Committee’s ‘Phase II’ investigation into intelligence prior to the Iraq War... I stand ready to participate in this investigation in any way possible."

On November 1, 2005, Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), the Senate minority leader, invoked a seldom-used provision of the Senate rules to place the body in a closed session. During a three-and-a-half hour discussion, agreement was reached on the creation of a six-member Senate panel to report by November 14 on "the intelligence committee's progress of the phase two review of the prewar intelligence and its schedule for completion."<5>

Phase two of the investgation has not yet been completed.

Get angry. Get busy. This is another line of attack we can be beating them with,

10. I thought is was used as a humorous segway
http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/5/messages/191.html

I don't know any of the one liners... but my dad used it all the time just to introduce a new (funny) story in the middle of some other story...
Sort of like 1001 Arabian nights.

My dad would also always answer the phone "Murphy's Mule Barn, Murphy speaking..." and I swear I don't know where the hell that came from.

And another (when it was especially cold outside)... "Cold enough to freeze the balls off of a brass monkey" (but then, he served in the navy
so I guess that one is OK)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Tonto, disguised as a doorknob,
comes off in the Lone Ranger’s hand.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Grandma was beating off the Indians,
and they just kept coming and coming…

12. AFTER THE ELECTIONS??????
Isn't it TOTALLY obvious to anyone with two brain cells to rub together that any findings WOULD BE POLITICALLY DAMAGING?? But the American people don't have the RIGHT to KNOW what their politicians are up to BEFORE they cast a vote?

:argh: If I could possibly get any more angry at these assholes, I'd explode.

13. Hmmmm,
which one of the stories do we watch, not much choice!!!

I say we MAKE that the #1 issue this November.

Write the Senators running to ask those questions during the campaign.
(And make them promise not to fall in the "Right to Life" argument.

What kills me is that the pukes will STILL call Clinton out on his Blow job.Their list of wrongdoings is endless!!!

14. Feith...
I remember reading on DU a couple weeks ago that Phase Two was stalled because of some issue regarding Douglas Feith?... and that when that issue was resolved, it would start again... it's vague in my head, but i've been waiting for Phase 2 for awhile (forgot they put Nov 14th on it)... also i've been waiting for the Abu Ghraib photos to be released (weren't there more of them?)... Thanks for the reminder!

26. That's right.
They're waiting for the report from the Pentagon about Feith. The Pentagon insisted on investigating themselves about the allegations that the Office Of Special Plans had pile A and pile B intelligence.

The article was on Raw Story.

19. Where is OUR side on this?
Thanks for bringing up ANOTHER important issue. Stay on this--one of the main Republican tactics is to let things die with "benign neglect," or to "Fitzgerald" it--basically tie it up for years with a completely noncomunicative prosecutor--who then only indicts a 2d level figure.
And so it is with this Nov 14th date--they'll keep putting it off.
not that there's much to expect here--Roberts will keep the lid on things to the best extent he can.
Rockefeller should get up and demand a hearing every day,all day untill we get it. These hearings are 3 years after the war started!! How long is it going to take?

22. ex Long Range Recon Patrol
I spent 3 years as a paratrooper (APR66-Jan 69)(early out for college, same as GWB)
I was in the 101st in Vietnam as a grunt, then volunteered for the LRRPS--basically 5 and 6 man teams spying on the Ho Chi Minh Trail in what was then called "indian country" (western II Corps) although I never saw any indians.
The Lrrps were later renamed to US Army Rangers, just went to sleep lrrps and woke up Army Rangers.act same job, different hat. This was after I was discharged so I still go by Lrrp-- I like thesort of an sinister anonymous feel to it.
Y0u can see pictures of me in the war at: http://www.hackworth.com/photo0022.html

in the Marines as a gunnery seargent, and is now a Cleveland Cop "with an attitude"

He served two tours and was pissed because they stopped the war. I'm told he had 27 confirmed kills.

He's a little wacko, as you can probably figure out

28. kick. This post
illustrates two things: 1) how many misdeeds there are, and 2) how broken our congressional oversight is, including vigorous pursuit of oversight by the opposition party

Reid had some GREAT momentum going after Rule 21 was invoked....and now it is gone.
