Law on renewable resources greatest 2005 success - activists

PRAGUE, Dec 30 (CTK) - The Environment Ministry this year pushed through a law supporting renewable resources that environmentalist groups consider the greatest success in 2005.

Environmentalists also welcome the Transport Ministry having dropped its plan to build two levies on the north Bohemian section of the Labe (Elbe) river.

The government also approved a programme supporting alternative sources of energy in transportation.

Thanks to the integrated pollution registry, the informing of people on toxic pollution markedly improved this year.

The law on support of renewable resources guarantees firm buy-out prices of energy to small power plant operators for the next 15 years.

"The law should enhance not only the influx of billions worth of investments in pure energy production but also a better use of agricultural land and employment in the countryside," Environment Minister Libor Ambrozek has told CTK.
