Poll question: What is your campaign activity level? |
|
I'm curious to see how many of us put our money, feet and hands where our mouths/fingers are. That is, I'd like to know how many hit the ground for their candidates of choice; how many only donate monetarily; and how many campaign only on message boards and whatnot.
So... Select which of the following best describes your activity level during the 2004 campaign cycle:

for Feingold and later on for the "unified" Democratic campaign...took surveys, answered phones, made phone calls, donated, worked booths at the Fair, went to two protests (about 40 miles away)
Letters to the editor constantly....currently involved in a local zoning battle but that's personal not Democratic Party.

2. In addition to #5 above, I also |
|
worked a polling place (far away from my own) for Richard Morrison.
I also became a precinct chairperson this year (2005, that is).

4. Was an Area Coordinator for the Kerry Campaign... |
|
Started working on it in Feb. 2003, worked the WI State Convention in '03 for him, then went down in Nov. '03 and worked in Iowa during the primaries. Helped organize meetups, make volunteer and potential voter database lists, did phone banking, walked door to door, worked campaign rallies, protested Bush when he came to town, wrote letters to the editor of local publications, called volunteers to work certain events...
I also worked as campaign staff on another campaign where I did all that and walked in some parades and such doing hand outs. I volunteered for Feingold briefly as well.
I was really busy on campaigns from 2003-2004. Which is why November hurt so ridiculously bad.

I don't plan to participate in another phony "election" at any level unless the Democrats (or a third party) run an actual progressive populist candidate

and also walk my home precinct at election time.
And because of all my reading on DU, and passing along the information, my local democratic club president now TAKES NOTES whenever I call her.
Trust me. Passing along all the information we garner on Democratic Underground to others in the outside world really makes a difference. For example, at this month's meeting, we are having a program on the electronic voting machine issue. Next month, hopefully, we're doing a program on the spygate issue. Both because I pushed the issues.

Wife is de facto county leader here much of the time. Way earlier, shut down military recruiters and many university activities while in the SDS. Highly political but too left to be on anyone's payroll so never elected in the mainstream.

11. I was the precinct leader for a voting precinct for MoveOn's... |
|
campaign to get out Democratic voters who had a history of not always voting. I felt as though I wouldn't have been able to respect myself if I hadn't done everything possible to get B* out of office. Of course, he's still in, but at least I'm not kicking myself because I didn't do everything that I could personally do to defeat him.
I also donated money where I felt I should donate. Didn't attend rallies though.

13. Was a field coordinator for the Clark campaign in Maine and traveled to NH |
|
Spent the week before the primary knocking on doors and providing "visibility" in Dover and Manchester. On primary day I spent seven glorious hours outside a ward in Dover holding a sign and thanking people for voting. Another Clarkie, three lovely Deaniacs from Texas, a DK supporter and I all linked arms and formed a chorus line. Very entertaining for the voters and a great way to stay warm.
Gave the speech for Clark at my local caucus but by then it really didn't matter. I did a lot of GOTV work locally for the 2004 election and in a town that's 2-1 GOP we won two seats in the legislature and earned a 10-point margin for Kerry.
In 2006 I'll be the convenor for the town's caucus and heavily involved in local races. We have a one seat margin in the House and a three seat margin in the Senate and our governor faces a huge battle for re-election. I wish I could say we're going to challenge Olympia Snowe as well, but that just isn't going to happen...

15. I wasn't very active online but... |
|
I volunteered hundreds of hours in our Kerry-Edwards Headquarters and donated money to the Edwards for Pres campaign, our state Dem Party and the K-E campaign.
Most of my donations to the K-E campaign were in the form of supplies (office supplies and food since we had very little resources) for our headquarters. I estimate between direct cash donations, gas donations (for volunteer driving VIPs to events), travel expenses and supplies I spent around $3,500 or so.
I did primarily volunteer coordination at the office as well as worked events---volunteer driving for Alex and Vanessa Kerry, Andre Heinz, and Cate Edwards as well as an Edwards motorcade and assisted the Kerry-Edwards advance team with events (rallies).
I also did a substantial amount of work on our Dem party's Ride to the Polls project.
I took time off of work to work full time (some weeks overtime) for the campaign. I also attended a few events during the primaries but wasn't really volunteering until our K-E office opened up locally.
I've always done volunteer work, but not related to politics. I'm new to all of this since our last primaries, although I have ALWAYS been a liberal Democrat.

17. Worked for Wes Clark's campaign, then Kerry's....sort of. |
|
During the primaries I wrote 100s of letters to NH, TN and Ohio. Made phone calls to Ohio. Attended 3 Clark fundraisers. Went to Clark Meet ups. My son and I traveled to Nashville, TN. to the Clark Nashville headquarters and worked for 4 days standing on street corners, handed out fliers, drove Nashville voters to the polls and attended the TN Democratic Convention and a Clark rally while in Nashville. PRIOR to being a Clark supporter I was a Dean supporter and attended Dean Meet ups and on June 13, 2003 attended Dean rally at Milwaukee, WI at the Wisconsin Democratic Convention. We also attended the convention. I worked on Teri Renner's campaign. He was running against Jerry Weller in my district. I walked in the Labor Day parade with Renner and attended a fundraiser in Joliet. I also did neighborhood canvasing for his campaign. We maxed out on donations to the Clark campaign. For Kerry's campaign I handed out free Bumper stickers and buttons. I always had on a Kerry button wherever I went and if anyone said something about it, I pulled one out of my purse and gave it to them.. I also attended an Obama rally in my town.
