All Hospices are NOT created equal

I had to enroll my partner in Hospice last week. He's been have severe pain for the past two weeks. The Hospice Doctor prescribed Hydrocodone/APAP 5/500 for pain, David has been eating these like candy with no comfort. I have constantly been on the phone with Hospice Doctor & nurses to no avail. Yesterday Morning at 7:00am I called begging & pleading that his pain is so bad that can not tolerate it any longer, they said they were looking into it. At 2:00pm I couldn't stand him in pain any longer so I took him to the Emergency room. They were surprised he was still alive, his Kidneys had been shut down for awhile.

Now I know Hospice won't help with Dialisis, But my problem is them letting him suffer in pain. I spoke to his regular Doctor before going into Hospice & he about went bonkers. His advice to me was not to do Dialisis & let David go peacefully in his sleep. :cry: He said he would manage his pain for him. I am so pissed at Hospice right now I can't even begin to tell you. I know many people have swore Hospice is the best thing but ppearently not in my area.

If you don't see me for awhile you will know why. I want to thank all of you who have given me support in the past.

When my mom passed away from Alzhiemers, they just gave us liquid form of morphine, she passed away in her sleep and did not suffer.

I am also so sorry to hear about this hospice, please, please... find another one. Hospice's are generally a very good thing.

my heart goes out to you and David. Knowing you are loosing your partner breaks your heart but watching a loved one suffer is such pain in itself.
Sorry that Hospice let you down, really sorry. Like you I thought pain relief was something they came through on.

I hope David's pain has eased.

Nothing I can say but thoughts and prayers are with you and David. Know those words don't ease the anguish.

9. vicodin 5's are a joke. He should be made comfortable, even

if that means taking something stronger like Oxy's or MScontin

Hospice helped my mom to die at home with dignity surrounded by us kids and my dad and I can't say enough about them. I'm so sorry to hear that these fucks aren't doing you and David right.

This is important enough, though, to find someplace else., and find a doc who'll give him something that'll make him feel like he's already got one foot across the threshold into heaven.
