John McCain was not impressed with Obama's change of heart. Neither am I. Reform is necessary and I think McCain is ONE repug who is genuine about it.

It's almost beyond irony that McCain accuses Obama of opportunism when I can't think of a bigger opportunist than McCain himself.Sometimes I'm not too sure but what the repiglicons didn't get it right in South Carolina 2000 when they implied that Mccain's captivity unhinged him.His almost instantaneous cave on the antiabuse measure he trumpeted and got passed then disappeared when the chimperor called king's X with his "signing statement". I've no respect for McCain at all. Never had very much and any little that I'd once held is long since evaporated. This tends to convince me that He's pretty much the typical repig bully P.Oed in this instance because he couldn't buffalo a freshman senator. I call BS on the whole thing, and pizzonim on mccain.

3. Obama only said Reid's bill should be the basis for reform

You can see by Boehner's election just how much the Repukes really want to reform anything. They will gut McCain yet again, but McCain will say he tried. Obama was in the right, very clearly, on this one, and McCain is the partisan. They know if Reid's bill gets used as the opening bid, they're totally fucked, money-wise.

The idea here is to SEEM to reform or at least scream loudly that you are. Boehner cares about this issue so deeply he handed out tobacco lobby checks on the floor of the house, while it was in session.

From what I've read about the situation, McCain is insisting on reform via the Republican way, not in a bi-partisan way.

Obama merely said that instead of having a task force to "study" the problem they should allow the committees of jurisdiction to get right to work on it since they know what the problems are...this is just posturing, since McCain is running again and he is afraid of Obama...

My old man Republican boss today even said he doesn't understand what McCain's problem is that Obama has bent over backward to be bipartisan, and that his letter is saying they should work on legislation that the MAJORITY of the Congress can support, rather bi-partison... But he(my boss) and all his Republican friends ALL hate McCain anyway....There are a lot of Republicans that can't stand McCain, and now the few Dem's that kinda liked him, are going to fall by the wayside too.
