New DLC Slogan: "We can maybe do almost good enough
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 11:36 AM by Jackpine Radical
if we don't say anything that will get the Republicans mad at us."

Vil(e)sak thinks we gotta tippytoe around the NSA and all the rest of the Bushco crimes or we'll look soft on terror.

Jesus H. Christ, THIS is what passes for an opposition party in this country?

1. Let's start a petition drive to the DLC
if they got a million dem signatures saying "You are no longer recognized by the Democratic party"

2. Or......"We can't really do any better, so why bother?"
That's the unbderlying message of the DLC form of centrism. They are basically saying there is no alternative to the corporate CONservative approach to issues, so why bother to try to change them?

10. I read quite a bit of his prose on this subject...
And I have to say I don't understand what all the furor is about. Basically all he says is that it's possible for Bush to turn this to his advantage if the Democrats don't frame this in terms of national security as well as legality. This is something that plenty of DUers have been saying here for a long time, with nothing like the violent reaction this has caused. I don't understand why it isn't possible to have a discussion about the merits of what he was trying to say, regardless of whether or not you personally agree with it.

Vil(e)sak thinks we gotta tippytoe around the NSA and all the rest of the Bushco crimes or we'll look soft on terror.

No. That isn't what he said at all. He said that if the Democrats weren't careful to describe the issue in the proper way, the Republicans would take advantage of it to bash the Dems on security. Which they would. Why is that a controversial position?
