Fla. Pastor Accused Of Throwing Puppies From Pickup Truck
A Springfield pastor was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after a witness told police he saw the pastor throwing puppies from a pickup truck, according to a report.
"He was actually throwing them, not setting them down, but throwing them as far as the trees. Just chucking them," Tiencken said. "He said, 'I told my wife. You don't have to call the police. You don't have to call them.'"

Tiencken called the police anyway. The detectives who tracked down Kohn said they found the malnourished mother of the puppies chained-up at Kohn's home along with four or five more puppies that had no food or water, according to the WJXT-TV report.

The dogs are now being cared for at animal control.

22. ha, in other states than FL, no one would have called it in and if they
did call it in, nothing would have been done...

FL and the environment/animals is one of the best states for those issues.

28. What you say is true and probably applies to any area of the
country. It's a very inhumane practice, but some people think that their animals will miraculously find a good home in the country. Nothing is further from the truth. They wind up being run over, shot or dying from disease or starvation. Euthanizing unwanted animals is much kinder than dumping them.

12. When they pull out the old "dominion" canard
It's good to remind them that the Queen of England has dominion over Her subjects.
But she can't throw them out the window of her pickup truck!

23. Having dominion also implies responsibility
even the kings and queens of old were expected to take good care of their subjects-having dominion over the earth means we have a great resposibility towards all living things.

42. it's been a long time since I read that book, but...
I believe that the point the author of "Dominion" was making was that since (according to the Bible) humans were given dominion over animals, it is our moral responsibility to care for them humanely.

It's a very good book. The author is a vegetarian, I think, and it made me glad to be one too.

Definitely not a pro-animal-abuse book. And I don't think it was even pro-taming, particularly. More of a stewardship/sacred trust thing.

15. True that, but it is the hypocrisy of the matter that is infuriating
The fact that he isn't just anybody, but a pastor, supposedly living the Christian faith, "Whatsoever you do unto the least of these you do unto me", and all. It is the hypocrisy that is particularly outrageous.

17. His religion does have something to do with it.
The ethos of Christianity is rooted in the person who practices it. Christiniaty is not like the pantheism of the Greeks, who believed that their own behavior had little resonance to the gods (unless they directly intruded on the affairs of a god).

Christians believe that their acts have direct and lasting consequence to an almighty God. They believe that they are answerable for those acts. Therefore, EVERYTHING they do is a part of their religion: their religion is supposed to affect them on a core level, changing them in a "soul-molecular" way. It is simply wrong to assert that a Christian has the right (or the theistic ability) to divorce their actions from their religion. Christianity is about the person who practices it, as evidenced by the emphasis on salvation of the soul. The actions are directly linked to the Christian, ergo the what he does has everything to do with his religion.

Mostly

Lu Cifer, please note that the hurting of animals (aside from self-defense, or for food) along with rape and hurting of childern is EXPRESSLY CONDEMNED in MY religion...THE CHURCH OF SATAN, thank you VERY much...I just mention this is passing, and also since it is true, it happens to give it that extra OOMPH, that extra FORCE!

36. Old Testament: Caninicus 4 verses 3-4
And a man from Canaan known as Dumb Shiticus did find his best friend didst know another man's best friend. Thus he didst become encumbered with an abundance of best Friends. To relieve himself of the redundant animals, Dumb Shiticus then threw them from his moving chariot.

And God did see this and said to him, "Dumb Shiticus, don't pitcheth thine puppies from thine chariot. Instead, take them further east where they will make nice gloves out of them and sell them to Wallius Martius"

Thus sayeth the Lord.

Hmmm....too cruel?

onto the highway -- after he's not fed food or water for about 3 weeks. If it's good enough for the puppies and the mother dog, it's good enough for an extremeist fundie hate-monger.

I guest spoke at a UU society in Orlando. As I was driving out of town on 50 I saw a huge billboard for a church that featured a picture of Kohn and his wife. They are both ministers. I have to confess to a few pangs of jealousy at the thought of having a church that could afford billboards. Sad and despicable.

Official: Dog starved by owner swallowed rocks

A malnourished rottweiler ate five stones in an almost deadly attempt to ease hunger pangs

BY ERIK GERMAN
STAFF WRITER
Posted February 7 2006

Cali the starving rottweiler became so hungry that she swallowed five golf-ball-sized rocks in her North Bellport backyard last month in a near fatal attempt to ease hunger pangs, rescuers said.

By the time she had emergency surgery to remove the stones, 4-year-old Cali weighed just 40 pounds. "She was skin and bones," said Matthew Kearns, the veterinarian who treated the rottweiler at Animal Emergency Services in Selden.

Though Cali was lucky, her sister rottweiler wasn't. She died of malnourishment shortly after Suffolk police found the two starving dogs and turned them over to Brookhaven animal control officers.
