Growing Number of Americans Are Afraid of Iran
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 03:18 PM by ECH1969
Public concern over Iran's nuclear program has risen dramatically in the past few months. Today, 27% of Americans cite Iran as the country that represents the greatest danger to the United States. In October, just 9% pointed to Iran as the biggest danger to the U.S., while there was far more concern over Iraq, China and North Korea.

Overwhelming numbers believe that if Iran were to develop nuclear weapons it would likely launch attacks on Israel (72%), and the U.S. or Europe (66%). There is even greater agreement that a nuclear-armed Iran would be likely to provide nuclear weapons to terrorists (82%). The public is clearer in its view of the potential threat posed by Iran than in what to do about it. More Americans worry that we will wait too long than act too quickly in dealing with Iran's nuclear problem.

The president appears to be making headway with his defense of the government's authority to conduct warrantless wiretaps of suspected terrorists. By 54%-43%, the public believes it is generally right for the government to monitor communications of Americans suspected of having terrorist ties without first obtaining permission from the courts.

A narrow majority of Americans (51%) say the original decision to use force in Iraq was right, up from 45% a month ago. Overall views of how things are going in Iraq remained level with 13% saying things are going very well, 38% fairly well, 29% not too well and 17% not at all well.

3. Ignoring, or simply being unaware of the fact
that Iran was becoming more moderate until Shrub's stupid "Axis of Evil" comment that gave the hard-liners the much needed ammunition to use in their elections.

Just another wonderful thing to lay at the feet of these bastards.

7. It's the reason we lost this last election.
Too many of these people think "What if???"

"I know he's a criminal and he's lied about everything up to now, but what if they're right about this one??"

They'll never learn. Especially now that Bush and co. have successfully drilled us into a society of fear...

9. Morons alert
At least part of the concern expressed by the public about Iran's intentions may stem from the belief that Iran already possesses nuclear weapons. Experts in nuclear proliferation generally agree that Iran does not yet possess a nuclear weapon, but much of the public thinks it does. A Pew Research Center survey conducted in October 2005 found that 55% of Americans believe Iran already possessed nuclear weapons about the same number who recognize that Great Britain and India possess this technology.

13. Have you never heard the President of Iran speak?
Or is the MSM just making it up when they quote him as saying "Israel must be wiped off the map."

15. And that fwightens you?
I bet the Iranians don't much care for Israel & the US constantly threatening them. And Israel & the US have nukes. And both have a long history of invasions and occupaitons. And gee who's the only nation ever to use nukes?

And what don't you understand about Iran having the LEGAL RIGHT to persue nuclear research & energy? What don't you understand about the immorality, illegality of preventive war?

And as you're so gung ho for a whole lot of people to die, you ARE signing up with the military, right?

18. Most Americans are ignorant of Geo Politics.
The RW Corp. Media, complicit with the Neo Fascist Bush Regime, catapults the propaganda of the Neo Fascists and most Americans believe the BULLSHIT.

Have there been any reports on TV or the possible results of a US &/or Israeli attack on Iran?
