29. Yes, she is. We must STAND AND FIGHT for what we believe in.
We can't let fear dictate what we know to be the right thing to do. We must carry her torch for freedom,justice and equality in her honor. It is what we believe to be true. WE ARE AMERICANS. This is what we stand for.

Peace.

30. Here you go:
Who is Freedom Choir of Philadelphia?

In 1968, an enthusiastic eighteen year old freshman from Northeastern Christian Junior College in Villanova PA, was so inspired by the concept of Black History Week that she wrote a musical. Uncommon for the institution to recognize such an event, Northeastern Christian Junior College allowed Carolyn Sims to present her creation of “Beautiful People”, a musical that displayed the many gifts of African Americans. The president of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC); a civil rights organization co-founded by Dr. M.L.King Jr., attended the production and advised Carolyn to maintain the choir. He enjoyed the choir so much that he wanted the group to represent the Philadelphia Chapter of SCLC at the '1969 SCLC National Convention' in Atlanta Georgia. Thus, the SCLC Freedom Choir of Philadelphia was formed.

SCLC’s umbrella provided considerable opportunities for Freedom Choir to encourage communities and warriors of the civil rights movement by rendering spirituals, hymns, and uplifting songs of faith, hope, and strength. The group participated in peaceful marches and demonstrations to help to improve living conditions; such as the participation in the march to allow the admittance of African American students into Girard College located in North Philadelphia.

In recognition of “Black History Week” in 1973, under the sponsorship of the late, State Representative David P. Richardson Jr., Freedom Choir appeared at the State Capitol, House of Representative in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. All of the sessions in the House were stopped as the choir sang songs of freedom.

Circa 1974, the choir became independent of SCLC. Freedom Choir of Philadelphia (FCOP) ministered throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding areas spreading their positive messages at churches, colleges, schools, nursing homes, the Youth Study Center, Gratersford Prision, city festivals, and on all of the local TV channels in Philadelphia.

52. His Eye Is On The Sparrow (lyrics)
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 03:51 PM by cyberpj
1.
Why should I feel discouraged,
Why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely,
And long for heav'n and home,
When Jesus is my portion,
My constant Friend is He;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Chorus:
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free;
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

2.
"Let not your heart be troubled,"
His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness,
I lose my doubts and fears,
Tho' by the path He leadeth,
But one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Chorus:

3.
Whenever I am tempted,
Whenever clouds arise,
When song gives place to sighing,
When hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him;
From care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Chorus:

Something about the reverence of the occasion/funeral and tinged with politics.

Exactly, Martin and Coretta were about politics! Peoples' rights, etc. That is what this occasion is all about, duh Cris! Why were all the Presidents there?? Chris needs to not be so political, or should I say republican?
