What Is The Purpose of Your Posts?

Reading some of the posts, mine included, I wonder what the writer is trying to accomplish. Most of my post result from something I read that I think might be of interest or used by the DU community. In some rare occasions it is just that I had a stupid thought. What is the purpose for the majority of your post?

you never know - our leadership, leadership of the opposition, rank & file of the opposition, federal sanctioned sniffers, etc. Target for the whole of the audience or parts you want to reach. The normal part of the population is having trouble formulating cogent policy platforms in the face of conservative harassment and subversion (remember: those who can, do; those who can't, harass). This is the new town square where we formulate and refine ideas with our fellows. It's about what we all think, not some disembodied leadership who'll take care of things for us. They're our representatives, not our Daddies (leave that dynamic to the conservatives).

38. Yours was my rationale

for having spent so much time here over the years and REALLY BELIEVING that each one of us has a part to play. There were 5,000 when I began. Today we have 85,000 and I now often feel steamrollered by stupidity, willful ignorance and racism. For my part there is NOTHING more important than exposing the PNAC for the fraudulent, death-dealing entity that they are and joining forces to EXCISE them from our body politic. After the last few days with the cartoon dust-up, reading SO MANY rabidly racist posts from SO MANY I have alway taken an interest in, I'm profoundly disheartened and really must entertain the OP question in earnest.

almost never to "convert".

I look at DU as a kind of pub. We come in and sit down at the table - someone is holding court or has started a conversation and we add our opinion. Someone else disagrees or says, Yes But, Did You Know That, or someone else just says, holey shite I'm blasted anyone have a cig, and everyone says that's nice.

In reality, on DU someone starts a conversation. Someone else comes in and bitch slaps you, breaks a bottle over your head and then guts you with a fingernail file. Then they announce they disagree and you are evil, then douse you in gasoline and set you on fire.

Then when you pick them up, break them in half over your knee and skewer their eyeballs with your KFC spork they get all crybaby and say why are you so mean!

Sigh.

I guess I come here for the entertainment. Who needs martial arts fights to the death when you've got DU?

I read way more than I post. It took me over a year to get 1000 posts. The majority of my posts are to show appreciation. I appreciate those that always seem to manage to get the latest news here before I see it anywhere else. I appreciate those that can explain a point of view that is different than my own. I appreciate those that take the time to point out actions we can take on issues that are important to me. I appreciate those posters who make me laugh!

,...provoke,....thought. "Understanding" is a big thing with me. I do a LOT more listening than speaking. When I do speak, I tend to be provocative even though I am not a "mean-hearted" person, at all.

Frankly, the "purpose" of my posts are ALWAYS about reaching out to other human beings. That's the "purpose" and "meaning" of my posts.

I kinda' assumed the foregoing was the "purpose" of all our posts, on some dimension or level. Am I wrong?
