At a comedian's funeral, would you expect jokes in the eulogy? |
|
At a union leader's funeral, would you expect statements about organized labor?
At a pastor's funeral, would you expect religious references?
Why, then, it it innapropriate for the eulogy of a political activist to contain political statements?

It would be a grave (pardon the pun) disservice to the legacy of Mrs. King not to bring up the issues to which she has devoted so much of her life. That many of these issues were against the current political structure is irrelevant.

17. Think about how many political statements were made at Rosa Parks' funeral |
|
The only difference is that Bush wasn't there to hear them all. They're upset that Bush had to sit there, hear the truth and watch the reaction of the community that sees straight through him.

like they did at Wellstones so this is their way to get controlling spin on it. The DEM's trump them on this issue. By God, when I die, I want folks to laugh, drink, eat a ton of good food and talk about my union work, lobbying for kids and healthcare (like I'm rolling in the bucks here) and hear some good music.

16. I get livid when they 'compare' this to Paul Wellstone's memorial service. |
|
....Goddamn it, that was NOT a campaign rally. It was a memorial and a collective outpouring of grief. I was there, you stupid freeper fucks. Three to five minutes of one speech goes over the top and the right latches on THAT like fucking lampreys. Assholes! you weren't there. ....Now LAY OFF Coretta Scott King, too! ....God will punish you!

that great bit, where he does the eulogy for Roget, the author of the Thesaurus? ("defunct, deceased, at rest, croaked..")
The Pukkkes hate all our rituals. Of course they will use every opportunity to smear us, even at this time. What else is new?

22. Y'know, when I think of Ronald Reagan being flown all over in his coffin |
|
I don't think I have to listen to anyone talk about inappropriate. Funeral after funeral for that clod, eulogies full of egregious hypocrisy and lies, and yet somehow it's wrong to talk about our civil rights at the funeral of a civil rights leader.

25. Or tear down that wall |
|
or any of the other piles of political bullshit that was spewed during that week. But because it fit with the corpo-media view, it was just speaking truth of Saint Ronnie. And Bush trying to ride the tails of Reagan, that was just being a patriotic Murican.

and just want to be clear....Religious references will be fine at my funeral. So will political ones. But none of those "a priest, a minister, and a rabbi" jokes. I've never heard one of those that was really funny. And I have priest and rabbi friends who might be offended ;-)

and then when my dad died in the 1980s he had 5 1955 T-birds escort his hearse to the grave. (prettiest thing you ever saw, people pointed laughed and waved as the procession went by/ he'd have loved it) He was a charter member of the 55 T-bird club and also very Irish.
