6. Now THAT is a REAL president.
I was only a kid when Carter won the presidency and could not understand why he was so vilified.

He has done more truly humanitarian work during his post presidency than all of the other former presidents combined, and he has done it largely without fanfare.

11. His election is the first one I remember.
His failed re-election bid was the first election cycle I followed. I remember being devastated when he lost to Reagan. I was the only one in my Social Studies class who wrote a paper in support of Carter. Everyone else wrote about Reagan. And if memory serves, at least 90% supported Reagan "because mommy and daddy say he's a great man." *sigh*

22. He always was great... He just got swiftboated by the MSM.
Whathe had to say today was right on target. It was wonderful to get to see Bush squirm.

13. Very, very moving......
I'm glad I took the time to watch both President Clinton and President Carter's tributes.

Did anyone else notice how uncomfortable the idiot boy looked toward the end of President Carter's speech where he mentioned Katrina? He looked like his hemorrhoids were acting up - major grimace on his face. You could tell he took Carter's comments personally, as well he should.

These two ex-President's make me long for a better time when we actually had wonderful, real leaders.

14. I voted twice for Jimmy Carter. I wish he were president now, not then.
His presidency was less than successful, but his post-presidency is unparalleled for its success. He has truly become the conscience of this nation, and the Right hates him even more than they hate Bill Clinton because of it. I love that man. (And, to be honest, I had "lust in my heart for Rosalynn", back in the day). By the way, it was a difficult decision in 1976; I felt then, and I feel now, that Gerald Ford was also a decent, compassionate human being; as we look back, it was probably right to spare the country the agony of a Nixon trial. Plus, he tried to do the right thing. In other words, he would be kicked out of today's Republican Party.

Of course these won't get much air time but I long for the day when we again have a sitting President who understands our liberties and obligations like Carter and Clinton.

16. I've always loved Carter....
to me, he did a fine job as president and is probably one of the greatest ex-presidents we have ever had. I don't think he got a fair shake while in office and then that idiot in diapers for a president after him (reagan) did his best to trash and sully Carter's name.

17. Yep, the Carter smear was the pilot program. . .
under Reagan neocons practicing for what we have today.

Both Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter are genuine people of character.

From the funeral, I don't have to hear anybody else except Reverend Dr. Joseph Lowery and Jimmy Carter because they both spoke heartfelt truth from experience.

Returning my loving admiration and gratitude to them both.

19. If only those hostages in Iran were released sooner
think how different the world would be now. If they were released before the 1980 election Reagan and the neocons would not have taken power. No Iran/Contra, no arming of Afghan militants, no arming Saddam Hussein, no dismantling of alternative fuel research, no ridiculous military buildup and deficit spending, no bloating our national debt, no sending our manufacturing to China.

Carter's administration was making some serious progress in getting us more energy independent. People don't realize how important that is.

Damn, Damn, Damn.... and we would have had a compassionate and decent man as president. Carter's second term would have been much better because the economic policies he put in place didn't quite take off until the early 80's...and then Reagan pimped it for all it was worth.

We'll still be suffering the effects of the 1980 election for generations to come.

the line, but may we keep him around a lot longer. He and his wife are true stewards of God.
