15. Oh well. Back to trailers. Mr. CB's cousin is living in an RV in Slidell
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 10:24 PM by CottonBear
now because her home's first floor was flooded and destroyed. She bought the RV from my sis-in-law after living in it in Flo's front driveway for a few months. It's a 5th wheel. Flo sold it to her cousin. Poor cousin. :(

We're going down to St. Tammany for Mardi Gras, mostly to visit and help Mr. CB's sister and family. Sis was lucky: she had major roof and structural damage but is fixing her home. Others have not been so lucky. :(

7. President Aaron Broussard, of Jefferson Parish
is the man who was so emotional about his employee's momma. Remember him saying they're commin momma. Good on that city council.

8. FEMA states that they are not used to dealing with middlemen
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 06:21 PM by lavenderdiva
when it comes to purchasing the trailers. They state that they are used to dealing with the trailer manufacturers. FEMA states that they are being charged $16,500 per trailer, and that they are used to paying only $10,000 per trailer. I believe it was the president of St. Bernard Parish who led this effort to 'put to use' 5 of these unpaid-for trailers, and give them to the most neediest of his citizens. He was also helped in this effort by the OWNER of the trailers. They promptly drove them into the driveways of those in need. FEMA states that they will not pay for any trailers that do not have barscan codes on them (which these 5 trailers do not have).

Amazingly, over 30,000 PAID-FOR FEMA trailers are at use in Mississippi... Funny, huh? When I told my far right-wing father-in-law this fact, he matter of factly states, 'Guess you should vote Republican'. I wanted to puke. I told him that it wasn't right, and it shouldn't matter who you vote for, if you are in need. He still didn't get it, and I doubt he ever will.

I am very glad that these local leaders, and Governor Blanco are starting to play hardball with the Shrub regime. Its about time.

14. Did they say how many trailers were in LA?
Since the number in Mississippi seems to be so staggering, yet New Orleans was all but completely destroyed. I couldn't watch the video. I need to get new speakers. :(

16. Last week, on NBC Nightly News they were comparing and contrasting
the federal response to Katrina between Louisiana and Mississippi. In that newscast, they stated that Louisiana had received 2,000 trailers (of course, now we know they are not paid for yet, and noone's been hooked up to them at all), while Mississippi has received 30,000, which are in place and working. My friends who stayed with me after Katrina, and are now back in New Orleans, state that some FEMA trailers have been delivered to some homes, but FEMA has not provided any assistance to hook them up to sewer, water, and electricity, and the residents are now allowed to live in them until they are hooked up.
