Was GW Bush at Mrs. King's funeral supporting her life or just politics?
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 06:46 PM by blm
Please state which reason explains Bush's presence at Coretta King's funeral and whether or not you found it appropriate.

The media isn't addressing this question. MSNBC thinks the eulogies that sympathized with Coretta King's life and work were just politics, but apparently completely oblivious to the whole point that Bush was there ONLY for politics, since he has been busy UNDOING the Kings' life work the last 5 years.

I'll start.

Just politics - and I find that to be inappropriate.

5. I just keep wonderin' ...
... if anyone explained to the BushBaby WHO Coretta was before he attended the funeral?

I guess someone did. Otherwise, his eulogy would have referred to the fact that the 'King Family Singers' have brought wonderful music to Americans for years ...

8. Politics....he wasn't interested in attending the
funeral until it was moved from Ebenezer Baptist Church to the more conservative mega church where MLK's daughter is a preacher.

9. and he should have followed his poppa's lead and left his dead end
wife at home. She was clearly miserable the whole time. Makes me wonder just what Bill and Hillary might have said to Pickles during the limo ride from the airport to put her in such a foul mood.

blivet's** statement was lackluster at best, clearly showed he no experience with the very people he was there to honor, and was an embarrassment to him and to us.

But, at least he didn't wear an olympic wool cap and a green, fur trimmed bomber jacket. I guess that is a positive thing, huh?

10. Just politics. But requisite politics.
I cannot even fathom his not putting this on his schedule until someone "made him a DVD" or something explaining all the living Presidents of the United States would be in Atlanta to honor her extraordinary leadership and the civil rights movement.

Someone must have made the point that if he didn't show...he would be over-the-top callous to the death and passing of a great American hero...the First Lady of civil rights.

Especially with his "No" voting on Martin Luther King Day Vice President...there could be more trouble than it was worth to go to New England for whatever.

Damned if he did, and damned if he didn't. Why?

Because the *'s just plain damned.

11. Well, a few facts come to mind that tell me it is PURE politics
bush*s response to Katrina leads me to agree with Kane West.

Also, the "joke" that he made about hanging the portrait of MLK comes to mind.

17. Chimp and Poppy "held their nose" as they attended this funeral thinking
that they just HAD TO BE THERE SINCE Condi and Powell were "unavailable" so while Clinton and Carter could understand what was going on...the WHITE BREAD BUSHIES were left looking like "SOUR LEMONS!"

It's amazing that the few bits I saw "channel surfing" the cables seemed to show only the "White Bread" view and not critical coverage for perspective.

But..then..we know they are Pimps running "Media Whores." What else should we have expected.

24. I don't think it's as simple as just politics
I have an uber fundie conservative Republican friend who believes that the republican party is not racist. Why? Because of Condi. And he would like to see her be the next president so no can ever say that Republicans are racist.

My friend has no African American friends nor has any understanding of African American culture. He gets uncomfortable eating at BBQ in the black owned restaurant across town. And his family is about as racist as racist can be, (The crazy ass Redneck Rapturist mississippi kind).

There are probably millions of Conservative Americans like my friend, that are uncomfortable with people of a different race. But unwilling to admit to themselves that their political and cultural believe system is in fact racist.

By GW and Poppy attending this funeral, it bolsters that illusion. And now millions of conservatives can look themselves in the mirror and say, "see Republicans aren't racist."

25. Strictly speaking
Of course Bush's reason for being there is political. Every move made during every waking moment is politically motivated. And that also applies to Carter and the Clintons. Inappropriate or not, that is all these people are about....pushing their agenda in any forum they are provided.

All politics comes from Democrats and poor Bush is the victim of "just politics" at every turn.
