Just saw "Munich." A study of violence begetting violence |
|
seems to be his theme. While he is more sympathetic to the Israeli side, I think, he presents a moral issue: if the righteous kill in vengeance, then the other side escalates the violence (which happens in the film), then the righteous feel compelled to match that violence...well, you get the idea. "When we learn to act like them, we will defeat them" is the statement of one of the Israeli killers authorized by Golda Meir to hunt down those responsible for the Munich massacre.
Do you think Spielberg is making a judgement on the Bush Administration's handling of counterterrorism?

2. if he picked Tony Kushner to be the scriptwriter, he knew ... |
|
... what he'd be getting into. I'm sure Spielberg could have found a new writer if he didn't like the script. Ever since the war started, Kushner's made his opposition very clear. And somehow, even if people yelled at him or tried to bribe him to soften his stance ... I don't think Kushner would change his mind. Kushner's recent anti-war play "Only We Who Guard The Mystery Will Be Unhappy" http://www.thenation.com/doc/20030324/kushnerand the addendum: http://www.brothersjudd.com/blog/archives/2004/09/the_necessity_of_making_yourse_1.html
