Is This a Reasonable Action Regarding a Job.....

As many of you know I have been looking for other employement in aviation where I can be involved in a more busier enviorment and be able to work with others who have more experience.

A few weeks ago I interviewed with a company for a position which they had a hiring freeze placed on a few days after my interview. This company is one that I really would like to work for so last week another position came open that would be a great stepping stone to not only gain some side experience but to learn more about the way the company runs its flight operations. I submitted my resume and recieved an email back two days later with the details of the job(hours, responsibiltys, start date and pay)and was asked to call or email to set up an interview in which I did.......My email response to the personal manager was that the position was of great intrest to me but the pay was an issue...in my reply I restated my current experiences and certifications inclusding my current salary...the pay was below my current wages.......

Is it ok to be up front with them then to waste their time.....was it a responsible thing to do????

1. How employers view the pay issue...
...NEVER discuss it until they make you an offer.

The employer cares about what YOU can offer THEM.

NOT the opposite.

Discuss pay and benefits up front?

Kiss the job goodbye, unless you are the ONLY qualified candidate in their resume pool.

That's not based on persona bias...it's based on working in H.R. at various points of my career and listening to what hiring managers and H.R. personnel said about people who address pay and benefits up front.

If you get the position, congratulations...you beat the odds.

3. It's a TRAP.
Yes, they will bring it up first.

The "politically correct" thing to do is address what YOU bring to the table, to get THEM on the hook, and THEN discuss pay.

They bring it up first to weed you out.

Which may not be a bad thing, if the job doesn't pay you a living wage.

They bring it up first to eliminate you from the pool of applicants. And if you go along with the pay, they assume you'll go along with everything else in order to get the pay.

It's a game. When YOU have something THEY want, YOU get to write the rules of the game.

UNTIL then, they're just playing with you.

I'm not proud of my years in H.R., but they DID give me an education worth its weight in gold.
