What was Coretta Scott King doing the day after MLK was killed?
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 08:56 PM by senseandsensibility
If you guessed mourning in seclusion, you're wrong. According to Randi Rhodes, she went to Memphis ON THE DAY AFTER HER HUSBAND WAS MURDERED THERE to lead the garbage workers in their strike. She marched with them in place of her dead husband on the day after his death.

This woman was an activist to the core of her being. You tell me if she would have wanted a "political" funeral. You tell me if she would have given two cents what her political enemies thought about it.

Anyone who is uncomfortable with Coretta Scott King's funeral and the messages delivered there should have stayed home. Beyond that, their opinion is irrelevant and unsought.

RIP, Mrs. King.

1. *'s appearance was the most POLITICAL action of all
He wouldn't have bothered to show up unless (a) he felt it would look bad POLITICALLY for him to NOT be there if Clinton and Carter were, and/or (b) he felt he could make some POLITICAL points with the black community by attending.

2. It's not my business how Coretta Scott King's relatives mourn her
It's outrageous that some Anglo newscaster sees fit to criticize them. It's none of her business either. (P.S. Yeah, I'm Anglo. However, I have the brains to see when something ain't my business.)

3. If Chimp didn't attend it would be
a horrible insult to Coretta Scott King. I hate seeing him there but he would be hated even more (which is almost impossible) if he didn't go.

4. Great. I, personally don't care at all if he
is "hated even more." So what? However, HE made the decision to go. No one twisted his arm. He went, and he should accept the atmosphere and comments there. He has no right to complain, and neither do his lackies in the media.

6. I don't care either
I couldn't hate him anymore than I already do. I'm surprised that he made any effort cause he has such a fuck you attitude toward everyone and everything. x(

7. Bill Clinton mentioned this in his eulogy. I'm sure the media will
conveniently ignore this little tidbit however.

8. So that's where Randi got it?

I really liked that story because it showed Mrs. King as a person in her own right, not just as an adoring woman behind the man.:)

9. There was a panel discussion on the history channel last night
that was really good. The members were pointing out that Mrs. King was a political being before she even met her husband, and that he followed her down a more progressive path. :)

11. I only caught a bit of it. I'm hoping it's going to be repeated soon.
