I love that such a sad event was also a real homecoming. You were so lucky to be there. I can just imagine how good it must have felt.

19. It was ironic. The two blocks from the train station to

the King Center are building after building of burnt out empty shells of former housing projects. This is literally 200 yards from the Center. As I walked past I couldn't help but realize how friggin ironic it was that in 2006, in the middle of a major US city, right next to the memorial center of the greatest civil right leader in the country's history, this situation can be allowed to exist. Simply remarkable.

I had the privilege of meeting Mrs. King 30 years ago. I worked for a law firm that represented her husband's estate. At that time I was a receptionist and she was always gracious both on the phone and in person. It was also great to see Ted Kennedy at the services. Every year the law firm would host a breakfast for Mrs. King and Ted would come.
