I want everyone reading this to swear to me...
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 09:18 PM by Pacifist Patriot
Some time in the future (hopefully well in the future) if you ever stumble upon a public funeral in which politicians share their views and someone drops the clue that you're seeing the final send off of DU's Pacifist Patriot (I'll make sure that piece of information is included up front)...do not let the right wing and the media get away with whining about partisan politics in an inappropriate venue.

My life is about my family, my ministerial calling and my political activism. It would be entirely inappropriate for people to speak at my funeral and not mention these three things. If I detest the sitting president, give the facts about his or her policies. If I adored the sitting president, praise him or her. But for goodness sake, don't play nice and bland because it's "not the appropriate time and place." If you're truly honoring my life, it will be!

And don't forget the alcohol, loud Irish music, and no black clothing. I'm a spring, it's not in my palette.

1. Well said!
I missed the media coverage of King's funeral, but from what I hear it has been ridiculous.

2. The funeral was fantastic.
I'm skipping the media coverage. What I know about the backlash I'm getting from here.

3. Abso-freakin'-lutely...
Same goes for me! At my funeral it's MORE than appropriate to bash a bad administration, question religious dogma, and laugh, drink, sing, and dance. Please refrain from screwing in the coatroom, however. If I ain't getting any at my funeral, no one else should. ;)

5. LOL! My wake better include a rip-roaring discussion about
theology and where I might be now that I'm no longer here. I don't care about sex in the coatroom though. I figure they'll also be getting screwed by the cost of the affair. They might as well have some fun at the same time.

8. It was hilarious. Good thing I'd already finished my decaf.
I'd have been looking for a new keyboard.

4. You got it.
If you happen upon my memorial, please be kind to the socially challenged comics. And feed them if at all possible.

6. Upon your death, your life should be celebrated ...
... and how could we possibly celebrate your life if we omit that which you were passionate about?

12. I'll confess to an inappropriate chuckle when Bill Clinton said,...
something about keeping in mind there is a woman in that casket. My first thought was, if he was speaking at my funeral he'd have to say "Now let's all remember there is a pile of soot in that there vase."

13. OMG just soot and no ash?
Can't get sucked in here though. I didn't watch the funeral or anything about it. I hate being sad. Not even going there.
