A perspective on Bush.
Let's just say that in January of 2000, we had come up with no president at all.

September 11th 2001, four planes are hijacked. Automatically, NORAD goes into gear. Immediately planes are scrambled. Like clockwork, like the many times they had practiced for such an occasion, the scene plays out to it's conclusion, whatever that may be. But probably not with the twin towers in rubble. However, let's just play devil's advocate and say that NORAD was sleeping in that day. Or NORAD just wanted to finish their breakfast. Or for whatever strange reason NORAD did what they did on the actual 9/11 day.

Imagine that two planes slammed into the WTC on September 11th 2001. And we did nothing about it. We knew Bin Laden arrainged it. But we decided to heal our wounds before making any hasty decisions. Then let's imagine that there are more terrorist attacks. The Golden Gate Bridge goes down. Another hijacked plane slams into another high rise building. But instead of going crazy, we spend our time consciously thinking of what steps to take. At this point in time, I would guess that France would send fighter planes to help us. And Canada too. Maybe even Iran. The world would be greiving with us. They would all be on our side, and offering their help. Their protection.

So I'm saying that with no president at all, and no response from NORAD (which would never happen), we would be in better condition than we are today. We would have $9 trillion in the bank, our foreign relations would be good, we would still have our civil rights, but we would have lost probably a few more people and a bridge.

Bush is worse than nothing.

Bush has done more damage to America than any of the terrorists could have possibly hoped for in their wildest dreams. Probably one hundred thousand people dead in a war of aggression and theft. A bankrupt country. One disliked by most of the planet.

An empty White House would have been better than Bush.

1. Hell, we probably would have had no Sept 11,
The authorities probably would have done their job and there would have been no need for major terrorist attack, to get into Iraq and fashion an all pig-boy government.

2. Imagine if the entire Bush family didn't exist...
then maybe some of that juicy Saudi cash that funds Al Qaeda would have been stopped by one of our other Presidents, like how Clinton tried to start doing in the '90s...

3. I had to post this. But it's so obvious to everyone on DU.
I was riding my bike. Maybe that was my mistake. I get great thoughts when I ride. But I kept thinking Bush is worse than nothing. And NORAD. What was it that made NORAD do essentially nothing? So I posted this. But around DU this is like saying nothing. Still, one has to wonder why we are in this nightmare. And comparing Bush to nothing seemed like a legitimate comparison. Think of where we'd be if we had nothing for president.

5. I concur. I think Gore should put in a bid for '08--
and open with an apology to the American people for not fighting hard enough in 2000 and that he has had 7 years to learn how to do it right.

He's someone I could really get behind. (I voted for him in 2000 but I wasn't very political back then.)

7. Whoever it is, they have a big mess to clean up.
We're in a very interesting time. Where do we go from here? I also voted for him, and then woke up to politics in 2001.

4. If Bush wasn't there, the nation would get smarter just by default.
Having him speak to the nation dumbs EVERYONE down several notches. He's lowered the intellectual standard for the entire country.

6. Haha.
I just got off the phone with my 82 year old dad. He was so pissed off at the smirk on Bush's face during the King funeral today. But he said it was pretty amazing when he had to sit through that scathing speech with the audience applauding the lack of WMD in Iraq.

We also talked about how to be a republican requires a certain amount of confusion. To which he added, also a certain amount of misguidance, such as greed.

Oh well. I guess we all knew Bush was worse than nothing. I like your concept of smarter by default. Haha.

8. My dad (almost 70) and all his friends HATE Bush. I get copied on
a lot of their emails and it's cool to see these retired guys getting fired up about it. They've all seen these crooks come and go, but they've never seen the crooks become so brazen about it.
