Why do people make shit up to create problems? (Kid/School related)
I went to a birthday party this weekend. Simple event, local kiddie play place...cake, ice cream...screaming girls running around and later the grand opening of the gifts.

I stood in the background with the other mothers talking while the festivities were going on...

While there, one of the mothers started ranting that the school was asking for very personal information about her child..."they want her prescription for her glasses...and I am not giving it to them!!!! No that is an INVASION of my PRIVACY".... two other mothers, myself included, asked..."why do they want this?" and she failed to give an explanation...then I said..."my kids both have glasses and they never wanted the prescription"....she just ignored me...and then lightbulb went on in my head....and I realized she is making this shit up...and when she encounters people who know better...she just pretends we aren't there....

Now the more this woman talked the more I realized that she wasn't the "normal" person I had assumed she was...you see she looked normal...dressed beautifully, attractive and well groomed...but she was insane...

I started to realize that everything that happens to her or her kids is completely taken out of context and I also realize that it is people like her who create the rumors that circulate around our district which the school board then has to diffuse....

For example...she cited that the district wasn't buying enough textbooks...I know this one is a lie, I even told her it was a lie and that enough textbooks are purchased but the teachers choose in some cases not to give them out...they have the kids share the books in class...likely due to the fact that kids take these books home and never return them...once again...she ignores me... I even told her...go to the school board meeting it is open to the public...and once again...she ignores me...

2. I sometimes think I am the only rational individual
I always feel like an outsider because there are few people I can actually converse with ...

I absolutely detest the ones who have put so much focus on their child that they become almost obsessive about "Boopsy"..."Oh my Boopsy is going to be the first ice dancing phsyicist if only the school district would direct more time towards her special talents"...meanwhile "boopsy" is in the corner picking her nose and chasing a friend around with the booger...

3. Some people like to be victimized. Even when they're not, they
make up a situation so that they feel that way.

You can find any number of peole that feel they have been spied upon since the NSA spying story broke, or many similar issues.

5. It is really scary that people do this because it can create problems
where there are none.

I also feel that these same folks are kind of gullible...they are so willing to believe any wild story that they fall for the kind of "scary" rhetoric that Bush Inc spouts...

6. Did you see earlier thread about people who lie a lot? Brains differ
from those who don't lie a lot.

Here's thread link, article link is in the Op. Rather interesting and might explain a lot

There was a lecturer/self help variety I saw on PBS years ago. Came in in the middle and missed her name. Very funny lady who really knew people. She used the term "awfulizing" to describe the action of which you speak. It rang very true to me and the term does apply to a lot of people and their need to be constantly stroked for all the 'bad things' they tell us they suffer.
