bush was THERE for political reasons - and it blew up on him
What really happened today is that bush tried to use the King funeral for a last minute POLITICAL photo-op, and got it beyond his wildest dreams. And to see the frauds on the right who were all set to profit from a photo-op now whine about how the mean Democrats and those damned blacks messed up their little scheme with "politics" is nauseating.

bush using the funeral of a civil rights pioneer as backdrop for selfish gain was evidently over the line for those there to genuinely honor Coretta Scott King, and they were damned right to expose the little slime ball as the type of danger, and threat to the freedom, that she fought against.

3. there's like 8 threads of the blow by blow of Ms. King's funeral
chimpy pants and pickles showed up and got gently blasted by a bunch of the speakers for the war and the wiretapping

25. If a picture paints 1000 words then this one paints about 10brazillion!

BTW, that guy was Rev Lowery and even he was saying how we were lied to about Weapons of Mass Destruction!! Laura looks like fricking laser beams are about to shoot out from her eyes!

4. I haven't heard any of the talking heads....
but the camera was on him the whole time he was there...and he just looked so not a part of...he personifies the barriers to the struggle for racial equality. Abraham, Martin, and John vs. George Bush. Just like 'My Pet Goat'...totally inappropriate, and obviously so.

5. W and Laura simply can't relate with anyone but pre-picked
republican crowds.

It was kind of sad. They are both simply clueless to the souls, wants, and needs of every day Americans.

10. All they did was sit there uncomfortably...
Like someone put icy-hot on the seats of their plush leather chairs. Chimp just smirked or stared off blankly into space... Laura looked like the botox was wearing off and she sat there shooting daggers with her eyes at anyone who dared speak ill of her husband's policies. They both acted like they had better shit to do than sit around and celebrate the life of Coretta Scott King. They were a complete embarassment - but that's nothing new.

12. It would have been nice to be at an event where this president...
wasn't in front of a crowd of hand-picked adoring supporters. The only thing that would have made it better would be if we were allowed to ask him unscripted questions.

15. I just finished watching a few hours of it
I can't believe he had the nerve to show up. I'm sure daddy told him he had to go. You could tell he didn't want to be there. Did you see the way he slouched in his chair? Outrageous. After Katrina, the budget cuts and so many evacuees being ousted from their apartments in a few days....well, I just can't type what I want to say. I'll leave it right there.

Here are the last few paragraphs from the LAT article:

Former President Bush poked fun at Lowery, joking that he used to keep a score card in his Oval Office desk of their interactions. It was Lowery 21, Bush 3, he said, adding: "It wasn't a fair fight."

The elder Bush, who as a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1964 campaigned against the Civil Rights Act pursued by the Kings, acknowledged that the service was an unusual experience.

"I come from a rather conservative Episcopal parish," Bush said. "And I haven't seen anything like this in my life."

For the assembled politicians, the applause was most thunderous for Bill Clinton. Sen. Clinton stood at his side at the podium as he spoke, and her brief comments later focused on how Coretta King had taken up the mission of her husband.

God, I miss Bill Clinton.

24. I think we all miss Clinton...
I would rather go back to the days of having the only concern be who was blowing the President... but now just one of my many concerns is whether the President is doing blow.

6. Actually, he got what he wanted
he wanted to be a martyr to his RW base...

he knew damned well what would happen if he showed up there and he got exactly what he wanted.....it was a cold-blooded, politically calculated move....

it was also win/win because if the people treated him with "kid gloves" and didn't insult him...well that would be a win...and of course if he was raked over the coals by the speakers...well, the RW would rally around their poor martyred leader and he'd also win...

7. MLK & Coretta's beliefs raked him over the coals
They are/were just the opposite of the "bring em on" mentality.

Coretta's life video was the most political statement made.

No, this is not a win for W. You can't be martyred by true Martyrs lives. You only look clueless if you try, to all.

14. It was like he was on TRIAL up there...
Whoever made the decision for him to go got fired for sure.

It seemed like they made him the guest of honor at a racist's ROAST...

Massive disaster.

21. Blew up like the H-BOmb!!!!
Unfortunately I didn't get to see everything, but I saw enough. It started with Jimmy Carter talking about the illegal spying and wiretapping of the Kings and it was down hill from there. Joseph Lowery, civi rights leaders, family members and Mrs. King baby gal just sho nuff TOLD it.

bush looked like he was sitting on a pin cushion the entire time and laura could play with her hair and pray for it to end.
