There has been a LOT of programming recently about Cuba. I have a feeling that when Castro dies, it will be similar to when the USSR imploded.. I don't think there will be a massive upheaval.
The old emigres here have passed on, and their property would not be much to re-claim if they DID go back, and their children are Americans with children of their own, so I don't se them going back except out of curiosity to see what Abuela & Abuelo kept describing to them.
Foreigners already have a toehold there.. Canadians, Mexicans, Germans and Caribbean countries, so we have more or less ceded our "claim".
After 45 years of bad feelings, I can't see the people who are still there, welcoming us with open arms.
Some think that Raul will take over, but I think when Castro dies, that will be IT. Raul is an old guy too and I think the people are ready for younger leaders.. I have a sneaky feeling that Chavez may play a big role in the future of Cuba..
Who knows, I may even go there to see if there's anything left that I could lay claim to:) (Good luck to me finding the records necessary, eh?)
