"People need to begin to take responsibility for themselves,"
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 07:58 AM by MrsGrumpy
So says Frank Michel, "spocksperson" for Houston Mayor Bill White.

Well let's see. Their homes are gone...thank you Katrina.

Most of their jobs are gone...again, thank you Katrina.

There are no jobs, no housing, no anything to be had...Look at the struggles of our very own merh when faced with the ineptitude of FEMA. And now FEMA has the balls to say these people didn't file for an extension soon enough? How come I don't believe that. This is an agency that has dropped the ball from Day One.

This is an administration that has swept the destruction of the Southern Coast of this country under the rug. I wonder if reconstruction has begun on Trent Lott's house yet? :puke:

This is not the country it could be.

3. Nobody stands on their own
This ideology of small government may be dressed up as "personal responsibility" in order to sell it to the masses, but in truth it's about the rich avoiding their fair contribution to society. The reason they are rich is because they live in America, with all the facilities that affords, but they wish not to pay back what is due.

The really stupid thing is that those who work in service of this ideology think that they are capitalists, but they are unwittingly working to undermine capitalism. A proper degree of social provision is in fact a stabilising influence on a country. Most revolutions happen when an underclass is squeezed beyond toleration, and they turn and fight to throw off their masters. I wonder why these modern capitalists think that the same cannot happen in America?

6. Iraqis are more than willing to take responsibility for themselves
In fact they asked us to leave, but we can't because we know what is best for them.
