Powerful message to send to your Christian RW friends
I found this on a financial message board where my hubby likes to hang out. At first I thought it was a Pat Robertson type Christian message-boy was I surprised. It lasts a few minutes, but it has very powerful images.

4. It would be much better without
that god awful noise. In places it did kind of sound like it might be music. Was it?

The message in the words were quite though provoking. The audio was a total distraction.

for this artist's audience. I've seen other vids of his, too, and I like them alot. We should be encouraging young artists to speak out and express themselves like this.

Unfortunately, all the Christian RWingers I know are getting rather elderly and couldn't possible be swayed by a video with such music. :(

15. I didn't like it
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 08:48 PM by Southpawkicker
Seemed disconnected, and the music sucked

I looked at it again, and I liked it less.

Is this part of the movement to remove crosses from churches? I mean the whole part about crosses at the beginning seemed like it misses the Christian message of the cross.

I understand that all kinds of people have done all kinds of terrible things in the name of the cross, and in the name of other religious symbols.

But the message of the cross is not one of hate.

19. I did not get that from watching it. To me it was saying that there
are people on this earth who are using the cross to promote hate. From another poster, the person who did this is young. To me it makes it even more powerful. Young people relate to drama (at least my teens do).

39. The message of the Cross
Is EXACTLY that of hate. The cross is a symbol of torture, pain, and death. You are confusing the message of Jesus with that of the symbol of his death.

And how on earth did you arrive at the conclusion this video is about removing crosses from churches? Didn't you watch the entire piece? It is about hiding behind Jesus' works to lie, torture, murder, wage war. About false prophets (Pat Robertson, George W. Bush, etc).. It asks at the end WWJD? the answer? Feed the poor, etc.

Honestly. Are you sure you watched this with your brain on?

or perhaps you misunderstood me :wtf:

Is my brain on? Perhaps you just like to attack people?

The other day there was a post about some group of "Christian" ministers who want to take the cross out of Churches because it is a symbol of hate, etc. (like you said)

I disagree, the message of the cross is simple: Jesus so loved humankind that he suffered death on the cross for us and for our sins.

The message of the cross where I come from is the message of Christ.

I'm so sorry to have given you so much to criticize.

I still don't care for the f*ckin' video!

Do I still have that right? Or should I only be allowed to be in lockstep with those who liked it!:sarcasm:

20. The amount of pain and anger behind that video is intense.
I have two minds about it. On the one hand, it's good to get people to recognize the possibility that they are following 'false prophets', and I've always thought the question 'who would Jesus torture' was a good one to ask.

On the other... well, it's not the uplifting, soul-raising, healing-type message of love that MLK or Gandhi conveyed, and I think they were on the right track. It's not my job to demonize or to pretend to judge the soul of a person.

25. Wow, I argue progressive principles everywhere,
from survivalist forums to Christian ethics forum to porn forums... everywhere I think it could do some good. Against well reasoned and assinine debaters. Full spectrum confrontation. No one has ever pissed me off before. Congrats.
1st) i did not make this video in order to preach to the choir.
2nd) I am not a Christian. I'm a faithless preacher ordained by the Apathetic Agnostics. Fun bunch.
3) I am a professional Musician. There is good and bad in every genre of music. If you do not have the ability to understand or appreciate music, then you are not in any position to declare it's value. This vid, minus the soundtrack is a one dimensional list of one liners. The key, lyrics, percussion, and progression tie in directly to the images and written words to carry the message. It does not work in segments, but it does as a whole.
3) The first series of statements about the Cross refer to it's function. Not it's message, not it's symbolism. It is a crude weapon used to kill defenseless people. As a crude but effective instrument of politics it has served in the same function for 2k years. There is no intended deeper meaning to misuderstand.
The Cross- a thing they nail people to.
4) I'm 34. Been all over. Not really young, just look good for my age.
5) Please don't send this to fundamentalist relatives with notes like "Told ya so." It defeats the purpose. As I stated earlier, I did not make this to validate anyones beliefs. i have a great respect for the philosophy of Jesus. It is unfortunate that his message has been twisted by evil men for their purposes. He saw that coming and warned of it. I am trying to remind christians of that warning, not to throw it in their face.
Ok that's basically all the points I wanted to make. Sorry if I come across as harsh, but I hate the nit picking that tears apart the left. The right will support their efforts no matter how wrong they are. That is bad, but so is fracturing your cause into splinters with trivial impressions and insights. If you are working towards the greater good, awesome! If you are standing around sniping the individual efforts i.e. "Not the best use of flash" ask yourself why you think trivial criticism is the best use of your time and energy. By November 2nd we need to repair the integrity of the vote. Educate the country on the reality of the GOP platform... whodid what, when, where, and why. Expose the manipulation of their religion to a whole lotta people. Find leaders who will actually represent us. Remove support from the leaders who are democrats/progressives in label only. Oh yeah, and become an opposition party. At present this nation has one party. GOP and GOP Lite. Why would anyone vote for a party that is for the same things the party in control is already doing? Basically, if I could coin a new slogan for the democratic party, to the democratic party, by the progressive side of the Democratic party it would be "Lead, Follow or get the f*** out of the way!"
Thanx,
-X

26. Well Reverend-since you responded to me the o/p- I have a few
replies. First-let me say I personally am not a Fundie fire fueler. Second-I did not mean to piss you off, I posted your work because I appreciated it. Third-as I mentioned above, the first time I saw it was without sound, as my husband had turned off the wave on the sound control and I did not know it. Having seen it twice without sound then twice with sound. I think the music was distracting to the message. No, not a music major, but played instruments for a good many years. Welcome to DU-after you have been here awhile you will see many threads asking for help in communcating with fundamental relatives and friends. To me a picture is worth a thousand words, and I thought your message would help some fellow members.

31. Well,
I should probably clarify my statements. I was not pissed by your statement or that you posted me. on that, no one post did it either. Basically it was a combo of messages and my own baggage. The factinalizing and petty denigrations inherent within the left wing (I gotta find a better descriptor for this half) has been it's worst enemy for a long time. Trying to find anything that everyone agrees on is impossible. And it shouldn't be. Let me explain. Asa a party the only thing we have binding uus is mutual dislike of bushco. That is not a platform. anti makes a bad prefix to sell anything other than tums and engine coolant. We are pro in regartds to focussed issues like civil rights. Then why not become pro constitutional? The GOP is proving itself to be the antagonist of that. We don't because we have too many personal agendas and no one is willing to let there's go or address the issue properly. I.E. Gay marriage. It's not a moral issue its a personal economics issue with only a small percentage actually against it. No0 one wants to offend either side so no one says anything, and the outspoken fanatics win the day. I would just buy adspace saying, "Gay marriage.. Don't worry you can still call them gay even after they are married and miserable like the rest of us." Take it out of the bigot's arena, mock their prejudice, offend a few sensitive types and make the "don't care" majority go your way to save face.
I realize this is unfinished, but I will do that later. out of time.

Well, thanx for the welcome. Pissed is probably not the right word. Just a bit indignant really. Thanx for spreading the message. Thanx for the debate. I do need the feed back, just hate when it is nit picky. In refference tro the newest vid at Blasted Reality, Punchline. It has no deep meaning. I did it for fun. 54. Hey, if you like the band
That did the song for Rise, let them know. They are called "Today".
http://www.2day.us
They are truly an independent band. Unsigned. They are an anomoly in music. Soren knows everybody. I've been jamming at his house and random acts just come by, sit in, leave. He wrote, recorded , mastered, teched his entire knew album. It's better quality than anything I've heard in a while. It's a demo that would go gold at least with minimal promotion and no changes, but can't get it played. Even local radio are fans, but they don't play it. The last time I was working in promotions I could get play for $50 to a DJ. That was 7 years ago. This Clear Channel thing is starting to scare me. Sorry, just rambling here. I am trying to promote his show at the Roseland on Friday the 13th and my bag of tricks seems to be hitting a wall.
Oh, btw what you are hearing on the flash is the song minus about 80% of it's quality. Had to cut the memory down.

Reverend X (not verified) Says:

I agree. And I'd like to add: What if the polarization of the US wasn't an accident? As long as the people are at each others throat, all the politicians can do whatever they wish. The flaw inherent in totalitarian regimes is the lack of a scapegoat. When things go wrong, it is easy to focus the blame. American ingenuity solved that problem. Two parties, outwardly antagonistic of eachother, but working together for their own self interests. The Patriot act was not a conservative idea. Many GOP oppose it still. Lieberman wrote it, Bush uses it. The media bias killed journalism from both sides. Letterman and Orrielly debated a subject that effects us all. But no one is discussing it. Not with this much blood in the water. As long as we waste all of our energies attacking eachother, we won't have the strength to stand up for ourselves.

Bush is giving our Nation away to corporate entities that would, quite literally put all of us into salt mines if they could turn a profit by doing such. Of course, they never would have gotten this level of control if Clinton hadn't given them the keys to the White House.Liberal/Conservative. Who made this crap up. The political spectrum is identical at it's furthest ends. Stalin, Hitler, I don't see any difference in the way they governed.

Katrina should have woken people up. We lost a metropolitan city. Not to a storm. Not because the Republican federal Government did nothing. Not because the Democrats running the state did nothing. Either one could have done the job. Neither did. They pointed fingers and blamed eachother as a city drowned. If any of them had had the slightest interest in pulling off a PR victory, they would have shut up, grabbed whatever they could and helped. Instead they purposely with held their resources waiting for things to get worse so they could begin again withthe "Look how bad they are" campaign. They sent in shooters fast enough while the media lied to the public. Research, evidence? Find any to corraborate the reports of snipers, roving gangs, anything they claimed. Looting? I wouldn't starve to death outside a grocery store waiting for approval to bust a window and get food. Would you? But the orders went out fast enough to shoot looters on sight. "The american people should be helping eachother." That was the justification for those orders Bush gave, and the Governor agreed to instantly. The Americans were helping eachother. It was just hard to do with mercs shooting at them.

Any former military here? Yeah of course. You know Blackwater "Contractors". If you were ever deployed in combat anywhere near them you've probably thought about fraggin them at least once. Seriously. Well, the Feds and the State had those guys on the ground in NOLA days before National Guard troops were even called up. So I guess there were roving gangs of thugs shooting up the city. They just weren't native.

This is going on all around us. We dont have a two party system. That would involve a majority party and an oppositional party. I don't see any. I do see a country on the verge of Civil War. It ain't Iraq.

So Orrielly gets on Letterman. They have spat. Both sides declare victory for their what? What are these guys? Actors? yeah. Political experts? No. Leaders? No. Entertainers? yeah in the same style as the WWE. Only thing is, I am not entertained anymore. Are you? It is time for this show to get cancelled.

We got anger and energy everywhere you look. It's time to quite looking at eachother down in the muck and look up the hill at the friggin party that's been goin on. None of them are worse off from the war. deficit, weather. And we are paying the bill. Rush hasn't lost any weight and micheal moore's fatter than ever. Everyone I knows gettin that lean hungry look.

-x

Or we could just kill ourselves for their amusement. It's up to you. Your choice.

Awesome piece of work. Sorry you got pissed at the posts here.

That being said, SOME of us actually have more than one brain cell and use them on a regular basis. I saw your work for what it was and the message is something I've been saying for years (and it falls on deaf ears, pearls before swine, etc).

I DID send this to a couple of Jesus freak relatives NOT to fling the message in their face but in the dire hope it would awaken them to some of their more cognitive dissonent attitudes. whew.

so thanks for sharing your work!

I like it. It's a powerful message well presented.

And I agree that as a general rule liberals spend far too much time putting down and undermining and bickering with each other to ever be an effective force in American politics. We complain about W being a divider, but then every other Democrat is busy dividing his/her own party. Like we stand a chance at the polls when all we can think to do is cut each other down. Yeah, right.

it is a powerful message and I appreciate it. However, my Christian radical RW friends are not exactly what I call open minded - they discount articles from the NYT (liberal bias) so I would be surprised if they will accept a message from an athiest source. - Never hurts to try though (and I do).
