What is the American dream now? Changed how?
Used to be, maybe still is, the land of opportunity. People from around the world wanted to come here to "make it."

Nowadays, what used to give us the advantage, things like banking, free trade, access to capital, open markets...etc. exists all over the world, you can go borrow money and open a business anywhere in the world, including India and China, Chile, Mexico, El Salvador...etc.

Today, America's future is unstable, huge overwhelming deficits, one day we will have to pay!!! We have enemies throughout the world including possibly here at home, definitely in friendly countries like the UK and Germany...etc.

Wages continue to drop and social services are being cut, education spending is being cut. Our country is not investing in our future and/or future generations. We are less educated than we used to be, our schools' performance continue to decline, we are (I think) # 24?

Pensions are gone, no employer loyalty, what used to be strong American industries are folding, leaving even more people without a security blanket, which leads to more religion in our society...etc. (make it more dangerous?)

So sitting here today, trying to stay positive, what can I hope for?

No wage increases at work for few years now...
Have to work 2 or more jobs to get by...
Overwhelming medical costs/insurance and rising...
College education for kids out reach for most...
Suffocating property taxes...
High fuel costs...
Stocks in 401K plan have not moved since 2000...
Banks paying 1% interest in saving accounts...
Higher costs for medications...
Constant physical threat from terrorists...
...etc...etc....

I am not a pessimist, I have done very well for myself and my family. This is not a complaint, but I really feel for my 3 year old. How can she continue the positive American dream?

:(

1. Hard work and frugality
will no longer assure you a part of the dream. Inheritance is becoming the road to participating in the dream.
