Connecticut town to vote on censure for Lieberman
NBC teevee news in CT just ran a story about the city of Manchester holding a special town meeting this week, to which Joe Mentum has been invited, for the purpose of reprimanding him for not being a democrat and voting with the constituency which elected him. Could be interesting, and a wonderful, about-time slap in the face for Bush Lite. Stay tuned!

33. An angle I forgot about...CT's Republican-owned media is pumping him up
I was frankly surprised that this "reprimand" meeting got coverage at all. But I just remembered an amazing article from last week, banner headline in the very republican Tribune Media Company's Hartford Courant, above-the-fold, above everything else, above the stories about Bush's war crimes. Oh, wait, there were no stories about Bush's war crimes. Anyway, I don't recall the exact headline, but it was about politicians who've gotten a "second chance," and who've come back from humiliating defeats to become great leaders. And guess who it was focused on? Joltin' Joe, and how well he has succeeded since his and Al's defeat to the Supreme Court, er, George Bush in 2000, to become a strong, outspoken leader in the Senate, courageous in his stand for Bush's war.

So this thing from the Manchester council is actually quite stunning in it's timing, and it seems like a direct counter to the Courant's free campaign article for the republican party's favorite step son. It will be interesting to see how the Courant covers this, coming as it does so soon after their love story about the guy. Will they listen to the people, or keep pumping up the guy who...what the hell am I thinking? I'm sure any story about Manchester will be downplayed and soft-peddled, perhaps so the Courant can devote more space to Haddasah's favorite recipe's, or Joe's favorite Hannukah stories.

Whether it's his Senate seat in 2006, or "the big one," this article in the Courant was an obvious warning shot...The Tribune Media Company loves the republican party more than its readers. Or the country.

Ben Nelson (D-NE) 41

Mary Landrieu (D-LA) 19

Kent Conrad (D-ND) 18

Max Baucus (D-MT) 17

Mark Pryor (D-AR) 17

the number to the right is from Geiger's weasel awards... it accounts for how many votes they tendered to the Rethug side. Link here:

68. Hartford Courant has an online story about it, in the Manchester section
Edited on Tue Jan-03-06 09:18 PM by Atman
I haven't seen any other local stations pick it up. But then, the CBS affiliate is owned by the Tribune Media Company/Hartford Courant, the fascist's chief enablers here in CT, so I'm not surprised they've been mum about it. They buried it in a "local" town news section of their web site. On the main news site, they have a glowing story about Joe fighting for us for more Homeland Security money. Here is the article...I din't know if it happened, because pretty much everything was shut down here because of the storms today.

69. Not quite the case...
it seems that the DEMOCRATIC TOWN COMMITTEE of Manchester - not the "town" of Manchester - is considering a special meeting of the Democratic Town Committee - not a full-blown "town meeting" - to censure Lieberman. Which makes sense. Is a town going to run an official municipal "town meeting" for all its citizens to censure someone for "not being a Democrat"?

Manchester Democrats consider chastising Lieberman
By Ben Rubin, Journal Inquirer
12/05/2005

MANCHESTER -- With several members upset with Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman's stance on the war in Iraq, the Democratic Town Committee plans to hold a special meeting to discuss the issue.

At the meeting, which likely will be held this month, the committee will decide whether to send Lieberman's office a formal letter stating its displeasure and opposition to the senator's stance.

Complaints about Lieberman and his public support for the war were brought up by Joseph Rafala at the end of Thursday's town committee meeting.

He said he wanted to send a letter from the committee, stating that "as Democrats, we don't like what he's doing and we want him to know it."

Now here's the link, which I can't make post properly here: http://www.journalinquirer.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=15695175&BRD=985&PAG=461&dept_id=161556&rfi=6

...but if you go to Google and just type in the title of the article, "Manchester Democrats consider chastising Lieberman" the first result will be this article.

This is a democratic state, Manchester is blue-collar working class town. Are there even any republicans in Manchester? Anyway, thanks for the link. The Courant buried their story, natch, and I didn't find it until tonight.

MANCHESTER -- The Democrats have invited U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman or his designee to the Democratic town committee meeting Tuesday night where they will discuss a resolution reprimanding Lieberman for his stance on the war in Iraq.

District 7 Chairman Joseph Rafala suggested a resolution on Lieberman's stance at a previous committee meeting, but the issue was tabled.

The resolution says Lieberman "is acting more like a Republican than a Democrat, that he's embracing Bush's war and he's not what the Connecticut voters voted him in for," said Rafala, adding that Lieberman is taking his own path rather than that of his constituents.

"He should stick with his Democratic colleagues," Rafala said.

71. That is so cool
The very reason we elect our officials is for their representation; not sticking with the opposing party. I'm so glad they are reprimanding him. Someone needed to put him straight.

 :woohoo:
