Prominent Black Blogger: "We Don't Care What They Think."
http://stevegilliard.blogspot.com/2006/02/spare-us-lectures.html

big snip

When black people were dying in New Orleans, they called us everything but a child of God. We were animals, looters, out of control.

Not one of these people said this was a lie, a slander. Jonah Goldberg laughed at the idea of people drowning in the Superbowl. They cheered the idea of black people being shot in the streets. They said we were too stupid to leave the city when they had no cars and no money

While Bush sat on his hands.

So now, these filthy vermin want to give us lectures . They can eat their lectures.

We don't care what they think. They may have their lackies, and they best keep their mouths shut about this, but 98 percent of blacks have no use for the GOP.

What? They think we don't know they're racists? They hated Dr. King and his wife in life and now in death. They hate that blacks and latinos no longer live in peonage. Only one of their bought and paid for fools would attack how Mrs. King was buried. To the rest of it, it was a fittintg tribute and making Bush sit there for hours was wonderful. He was told the truth and he couldn't run.

They didn't help us back then, they won't help us now, not when they can spit on us, and now they want to give us lectures? Please, please send Lynn Swann, Ken Blackwell and Michael Steele out to denounce this, do us this favor. Tell us how the GOP really likes black people.

Help remind us why blacks vote Democratic.

58. One thing I am deeply concerned about is the stealth plan to set
blacks and latinos against each other. It's happening in our major cities and prisons. Someone needs to speak to this devisive movement being orchestrated by the RW. I only hope that both groups can see through this. Stop the violence and hate within and between these groups. They would have such power in their numbers and their enterprise if only they could see and understand what is happening and what is planned for them.

7. I Think That Was The Point
All three of those names belong to right wing idiots who try to feebly convince people that conservatism is good for black people.

I think the blogger's point was that he was daring those guys to come out and defend the GOP to further demonstrate his point that the GOP doesn't care about american blacks.

That was a perfectly reasonable and honest speech, considering who Coretta Scott King was and what she fought for every day.

Too bad that Bunnypants got his feelings hurt.

9. Go Steve!
Republicans are ALL whores!

I read the whole blog entry and I am glad someone is speaking up about this so-called "controvery". Just watch: soon they will drag out Paul Wellstone, and what was said at his funeral as well. God forbid that progressives actually BE progressive instead of pretending to be, while stabbing We The People in the back ~ like Republicans do every day. As Steve said, the GOP is filled with a bunch of old men who hated the very message that the Kings and others inspired by them, spent their lives working to change. In one generation, these dullards have decimated it all with their greed, war mongering, classism, and veiled racism.

What a bunch of hypocrites and liars these helmut headed Suits are! I wish they would just shut their filthy pie holes and let the rest of us grieve. Instead they make a circus out of it solely for their political gain, as they always do.

I am still grieving over Paul Welstone's death, I will *never* forget, and now this... I have no respect for this bunch of elitist pigs. Virtually I am wearing a kilt and I am turning my back, bending over and showing them the moon, starting with the corporate media, the SCOTUS, the Congress, the Senate, and finally, to the Whore House, er White House, where I am baring my white ass!

He was Jewish, so the media's "outrage" is patently bigoted! And the commentators could fit way too nicely into Hitler's ARYAN army, no coincidence, IMO.

the racism in the GOP MEDIA.
Someone posted here the hateful comments on Lucianne's site re Coretta King. And these Klansmen are now teaching us manners? Gilliard captures my feelings perfectly.
NOT a good idea to follow Katrina with "Welstoning" this. Not even by sending black shills to do it - it's way too transparent.

32. Exactly. The main problem with the Wellstone incident is that Democrats
enabled Repukes in their BS. They refused to take a strong "FU" stand and we have to do so now. How dare THEY tell US how to mourn? Republicans are in politics for the money to be made, liberals are in politics because they care, because they are passionate, because they think beyond their small insulated world.

13. In addition since when are funerals supposed to be tailored...
to suit the needs of people the deceased didn't like in life?

WTF?

First of all...I thought why in the HELL are either bush's attending this thing?

Did either bush's have jack to do with the Kings that was positive?

I would imagine for starters that *41* was up to his eyeballs in the spying FBI business that went on against Martin, yet he had the audacity to show up and speak about how he'd never seen such a funeral and tell the Rev that dissed his son not to quit his day job? Where did he get off?

I guess I want to know why everything is supposed to be tailored to suit the needs of the right wingers at all times--the sheer gall of these people is just astounding.

"But that's because the Republican party, and increasingly the media, have no clue about black America, about progressives, about civil rights, and about what it means to be a committed activist who actually cares about our country and the direction its heading. If Coretta, on the occasion of Martin's death, could launch (and continue) a decade's-long campaign for equality and justice in his name, we should only be so honored to do the same to mark her passing." :loveya:

21. Excellent
Patronizing scumbag media telling people how to grieve!

We need to answer their shameful attacks with even GREATER outrage. How dare you? HOW. DARE. YOU.

How dare you criticize the way her friends and family chose to send Coretta home? Do they come in and tell you what to do at your funerals?

The reaction to Rev. Lowrey's truth would have been the same, I think, in any audience that wasn't handpicked by Bushco, at any event. Coretta King was all about causes that were bigger than the individual, and these Right Wingers want to turn the funeral into just another showcase for Dubya. Well, sorry, but there are lots of things bigger than Dubya. For example, Mrs. King. So sit down and shut up, and take the truth like a man.

God, these little moments when the truth shines through are like breaks in the Bush Cloud that hangs over us all.

64. Steve Gilliard is right on!!!
I am shocked and applaud, how, main stream corporate whores are trashing the funeral. I am speechless. Corporate whores had no right to commented the way they did! Bush Does NOT care about blacks, poor, disable and elderly, period!

69. even ed schultz railed against fox today
(car radio--i'm not a big fan of his--but the chicagoland station plays three hours of him and gives randi a three hour delay)

he pointed out that when any of us arrange a funeral service for our parents we know how it's going to go--we ask someone to speak, maybe ask them to include something in their speech that we would like to be included, we plan it out. and what the hell are these fox spinners thinking when they make their digs. didn't the king children have every right to have their mother's service the way they wanted it? who the hell are these right wingers to pass any kind of judgment on this family?

(but on second thought--they passed a lot of judgment on michael schivo as well, didn't they? gee, i guess these conservatives have cornered the market on what is decent and proper and respectable. cases in point: decent tom delay, proper jack abramoff, respectable michael "brownie" brown.) cough.

72. Yes. Yes indeed.
I read the rest of it. All of it every bit as good as what you posted here.

I'm putting that blog on my daily-reading list. Not being black myself, it'll give me some real prespective.

Thanks for providing the link.
