corretta scott king picture on car campaign
i just saw a post about a big printed picture of the woman. get with king family. their funeral. let them take it back in protest. another post said (my words) fuckin white people quit telling blacks what they are suppose to do, or in this case say.

we dont have the media. the media gave us a stage. they gave the nation a picture of the funeral. our grassroot ability to protest. put a picture of correttta scott king on car window. if movement gets big enough in the blue states, we will be able to do in red. i dont think i could start it here. this one scares me more than kerry sticker....... and then my 8 stickers, with a peace necklace instead of a cross

what say you

1. we NEED to do this for our democrats. for carter who is being dissed
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 11:29 AM by seabeyond
we need to stand up for him speaking out and support or they will not be able to stand up and speak out soon. we need to stand up for that black minister ahd that every friggin right and obligation to say what he did. we need to stand up for the people that supported clinton with a ovation and loud cheer
'
we need to support the dems for speaking out, so they can

they cannot be allowed to get away with attacking our dems in this manner. carter has no need to prove himself. kerry has shown us how to stand with our dems. lets do it

i dont know that we even need words, the face will say it all. she is so beautiful adn diginfied. we need this for our community. for them to be empowered. talking on another thread, we are so segregated here. we have allowed repugs to shut us up. not only blacks but us dems too. i am raising kids, and not from this area, i refuse the segregation

"White people telling blacks how to send her off?" That is a GOP talking point. Looks like Rove called NORAD and ordered a "wedge" dropped between the people at the funeral - who were all together. Of one mind. Except for Bush

Duck!

do you not like the idea. are you saying she is not our hero. i dont put her up as a hero btw. i dont do hero's. but do you object to a campaign against media trashing blacks and dems speaking out? or is it using a picture of scott king? i am not sure what youa re saying in your post except

we all get to chose our hero. i agree

13. You seem to be implying that blacks & whites have different dibs
on this experience. The experience of a leader like CSK. I disagree. We can follow whomever works for us. She is a universal hero. No need to exclude white from blacks in this. For sure everyone's experience will be personal. But that doesn't in any way mean there should be a line that Whites should not cross.

14. i am white. i so much want to be a part. i want stickers, so i can hand
out when i am out and about. as i said in another post, a friend totally connected to his black community. we are segregatedin this area. i hate it. we want to use this for both black and white being able to speak out together. no more media keep either of us quiet. we are one. so not about one experience. this emcompasses os much of what the issue is today. he and i can seethis easily growing thru the balck community here in town. it would be awesome. adn i would have this woman on my car, along with my eight other sticker.

i and not at all saying just a black issue. but i do think blacks need to stand up and say you dont talk for me. i am tired as a dem media tell me what i think. they do NOT talk for me.

15. But Dems like Carter & Clinton were truly & deeply involved with
Coretta Scott King. You imply that they cannot speak for a fellow leader. And they can. So too - any child - any person - can have an experience of what her life represents - in her very human form - and internalize it and live a different life because.

17. you and i are agreeing. i am not even kinda saying carter and clinton
cannot. quite the opposite. htey are comfortable with, they support black movement and voice, .... they have the right to speak out, we have the obligation to support and defend these two men speaking out. who doesnt have the right to interpret that funeral are those white media mouths and the repug party.

i agree with you post 100%. thank you for bringing more clarity so this could be corrected. i love what carter and the reverand said. and i love that the people in that church chose to stand to clinton and cheer for a long time. that is what i want honored and represented in honoring king yesterday. not the trash media is creating of her funeral. and the black poet that spoke. i never remember her name. such grace and beauty......i want the funeral back out of repug ugly hands.

20. yes her beautiful. they are trashing her too, by taking
away this funeral. and this woman, too good fo a spirit to let a bunch of asshole white, trash.....

i am so pissed. i am pissed. i see this shoudl be such outrage. i dont know. maybe it is just me. i am tired of my kids being raised in segregation. i force the isseue now. we have got to unite with one another and fight these assholes. i think htis is such an easy way to do it. with what they have done to this funeral, and all the groups we have and blogs, we could really create a fight against msm, and show them what fools they are. like we did with filibuster. that was a great lesson in org and united fight against. successful or not. i saw it as susseccful in our ability to unite and speak out.

27. A Rock, A River, A Tree - Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou

A Rock, A River, A Tree

"Hosts to species long since departed,
Mark the mastodon.
The dinosaur, who left dry tokens
Of their sojourn here
On our planet floor,
Any broad alarm of their hastening doom
Is lost in the gloom of dust and ages.
But today, the Rock cries out to us, clearly, forcefully,
Come, you may stand upon my
Back and face your distant destiny,
But seek no haven in my shadow.
I will give you no hiding place down here.
You, created only a little lower than
The angels, have crouched too long in
The bruising darkness,
Have lain too long
Face down in ignorance.
Your mouths spelling words
Armed for slaughter.
The rock cries out today, you may stand on me,
But do not hide your face.
Across the wall of the world,
A river sings a beautiful song,
Come rest here by my side.
Each of you a bordered country,
Delicate and strangely made proud,
Yet thrusting perpetually under siege.
Your armed struggles for profit
Have left collars of waste upon
My shore, currents of debris upon my breast.
Yet, today I call you to my riverside,
If you will study war no more.
Come, clad in peace and I will sing the songs
The Creator gave to me when I
And the tree and stone were one.
Before cynicism was a bloody sear across your brow
And when you yet knew you still knew nothing.
The river sings and sings on.
There is a true yearning to respond to
The singing river and the wise rock.
So say the Asian, the Hispanic, the Jew,
The African and Native American, the Sioux,
The Catholic, the Muslim, the French, the Greek,
The Irish, the Rabbi, the Priest, the Sheikh,
The Gay, the Straight, the Preacher,
The privileged, the homeless, the teacher.
They hear. They all hear
The speaking of the tree.
Today, the first and last of every tree
Speaks to humankind. Come to me, here beside the river.
Plant yourself beside me, here beside the river.
Each of you, descendant of some passed on
Traveller, has been paid for.
You, who gave me my first name,
You Pawnee, Apache and Seneca,
You Cherokee Nation, who rested with me,
Then forced on bloody feet,
Left me to the employment of other seekers--
Desperate for gain, starving for gold.
You, the Turk, the Swede, the German, the Scot...
You the Ashanti, the Yoruba, the Kru,
Bought, sold, stolen, arriving on a nightmare
Praying for a dream.
Here, root yourselves beside me.
I am the tree planted by the river,
Which will not be moved.
I, the rock, I the river, I the tree
I am yours--your passages have been paid.
Lift up your faces, you have a piercing need
For this bright morning dawning for you.
History, despite its wrenching pain,
Cannot be unlived, and if faced with courage,
Need not be lived again.
Lift up your eyes upon
The day breaking for you.
Give birth again
To the dream.
Women, children, men,
Take it into the palms of your hands.
Mold it into the shape of your most
Private need. Sculpt it into
The image of your most public self.
Lift up your hearts.
Each new hour holds new chances
For new beginnings.
Do not be wedded forever
To fear, yoked eternally
To brutishness.
The horizon leans forward,
Offering you space to place new steps of change.
Here, on the pulse of this fine day
You may have the courage
To look up and out upon me,
The rock, the river, the tree, your country.
No less to Midas than the mendicant.
No less to you now than the mastodon then.
Here on the pulse of this new day
You may have the grace to look up and out
And into your sister's eyes,
Into your brother's face, your country
And say simply
Very simply
With hope
Good morning! "
