County To Suspend 'Cheating' Sheriff's Deputies

POSTED: 7:16 am EST February 8, 2006
UPDATED: 9:57 am EST February 8, 2006

Sheriff's deputies who get caught cheating on their spouses or sleeping with another person's spouse in Pinellas County, Fla., will be suspended from work for the behavior, according to a Local 6 News report.

Pinellas County sheriff's Chief Deputy Dennis Fowler said he has seen so many cases of deputy-involved cases of adultery leading to 911 calls that he has decided to suspend deputies over the action.

Fowler said the suspension can be given to any deputy, regardless of whether they are married or single.

2. I'm not understanding the part about the adultery leading to 911
calls. Are people calling 911 over adultery? That's weird.

4. Think flying frying pan, and it makes the intended target. The Sheriff
is just trying to save his workforce from serious bodily injury.

5. Ahh, I get it now.
Thanks - I had visions of aggrieved spouses calling 911 to complain about the adultery itself, sort of like tattling to Mommy when someone else misbehaves!

Having said that, I think suspending people for adultery is pretty extreme. I guess the only time I could see it MAYBE being appropriate is if the deputies are screwing the spouses of their co-workers. Workplace romances are notorious for generating morale issues, and that could cause some serious morale problems within the squad.
